Abstract

A light-emitting device includes a base and a light-emitting element that is disposed on the base. The light-emitting element is made up of a plurality of semiconductor layers including a light-emitting layer, and at the same time, is covered with a wavelength converting portion that includes a wavelength converting material. The light-emitting layer emits primary light, and the wavelength converting material absorbs part of the primary light and emits secondary light. The luminance of the primary light emitted from the edge portion of the light extraction surface of the light-emitting device is higher than the luminance of the primary light emitted from the inner region located inside the edge portion, and the ratio of the primary light and the secondary light that are emitted from a light extraction surface of the wavelength converting portion is substantially uniform across the light extraction surface of the wavelength converting portion. Thereby, a light color difference across the light extraction surface of the wavelength converting portion that covers the light-emitting element can be reduced further, and it is possible to irradiate an irradiation surface with light of uniform color.

Claims (8)

1. A light-emitting device comprising a base, and a light-emitting element that is disposed on the base and that emits primary light,

wherein the light-emitting element comprises a plurality of semiconductor layers including a light emitting layer, and

the light-emitting element is covered with a wavelength converting portion that includes a wavelength converting material that absorbs part of the primary light and emits secondary light, and

wherein a plurality of the light-emitting elements are provided, and

the plurality of light-emitting elements are covered with the wavelength converting portion that is continuous, and are disposed such that a spacing between adjacent light-emitting elements is decreased from a center portion side of the base gradually toward a periphery side thereof,

wherein the plurality of light-emitting elements are disposed such that a light-emitting efficiency of the wavelength converting portion is increased from a center portion side of the base gradually toward a periphery side thereof.

2. The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the plurality of the light-emitting elements are disposed such that a mounting density of the light-emitting elements per unit area of the wavelength converting portion is increased from a center portion side of the base gradually toward a periphery side thereof.
