Abstract

A system and method for a supported architectural design. A plurality of primary supports configured to couple with one or more architectural structures. A plurality of flexible fins, where at least one of the plurality of flexible fins includes an inner edge and an outer edge, where the inner edge includes a plurality of attachment points. A plurality of secondary supports configured to couple with the plurality of primary supports, where at least one of the secondary supports includes a plurality of fin slots configured to couple with the plurality of attachment points.

Claims (27)

1. A supported architectural design system comprising:

a plurality of primary supports configured to couple with one or more architectural structures;

a plurality of flexible fins, wherein at least one of said plurality of flexible fins comprises an inner edge and an outer edge, wherein said inner edge comprises a plurality of attachment points, and wherein said plurality of attachment points comprises a plurality of holes configured to receive one or more fasteners, wherein said one or more fasteners secure said plurality of flexible fins to said plurality of secondary supports in said plurality of fin slots; and

a plurality of secondary supports configured to couple with said plurality of primary supports, wherein at least one of said secondary supports comprises a plurality of fin slots configured to couple with said plurality of attachment points, wherein at least one of said plurality of secondary supports is a channel, and wherein at least one of said fin slots comprises a cut through a bottom wall of said channel and a partial cut through two side walls of said channel.

2. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of primary supports are coplanar.

3. The supported architectural design system of claim 2 , wherein said plurality of primary supports are substantially parallel when coupled with said one or more architectural structures and said plurality of secondary supports.

4. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of primary supports comprise one or more strut channels compatible with one or more standardized structural systems.

5. The supported architectural design system of claim 4 , further comprising one or more additional structural components compatible with said one or more standardized structural systems, wherein said one or more additional structural components are configured to couple with said one or more strut channels.

6. The supported architectural design system of claim 5 , wherein said one or more additional structural components is selected from one or more lighting systems and one or more security systems.

7. The supported architectural design system of claim 5 , wherein said one or more additional structural components comprise at least one hanging element extending past said outer edge of said plurality of flexible fins.

8. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of secondary supports are coplanar.

9. The supported architectural design system of claim 8 , wherein said plurality of secondary supports is substantially parallel when coupled with said plurality of primary supports.

10. The supported architectural design system of claim 8 , wherein said plurality of secondary supports are substantially perpendicular to said plurality of primary supports when coupled with said plurality of primary supports.

11. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of fin slots comprise angled cuts made in said plurality of secondary supports, wherein a plurality of positions and shapes of said angled cuts is determined by processing a fin configuration design on a general purpose computer comprising at least one processor configured to execute computer-readable instructions stored on a computer-readable medium, wherein said computer-readable instructions are configured to cause said at least one processor to calculate said plurality of positions and shapes of said angled cuts based on said fin configuration design.

12. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of fasteners coupled with said plurality of secondary supports, wherein said plurality of fasteners automatically engages at least a portion of said plurality of attachment points to couple said plurality of flexible fins with said plurality of secondary supports.

13. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein said one or more architectural structures is selected from a ceiling system and at least one wall.

14. The supported architectural design system of claim 1 , wherein an outer surface comprising a plurality of said outer edges of said plurality of flexible fins conforms to a curved two-dimensional surface.

15. A supported architectural design system comprising:

at least two primary supports, wherein said at least two primary supports are coplanar and substantially parallel;

at least four channel nut connectors configured to couple with said at least two primary supports to secure said at least two primary supports to one or more ceiling structures;

a plurality of flexible fins, wherein at least one of said plurality of flexible fins comprises an inner edge and an outer edge, wherein said inner edge comprises a plurality of attachment points, and wherein said plurality of attachment points comprises a plurality of holes configured to receive one or more fasteners, wherein said one or more fasteners secure said plurality of flexible fins to said plurality of secondary supports in said plurality of fin slots; and

at least four secondary supports configured to couple with said plurality of primary supports at a right angle, wherein said at least four secondary supports are coplanar and substantially parallel and wherein said at least four secondary supports comprise a plurality of fin slots configured to couple with said plurality of attachment points.

16. A supported architectural structure comprising:

a plurality of coplanar primary supports in a substantially parallel configuration and configured to couple with one or more architectural structures;

a plurality of coplanar secondary supports in a substantially parallel configuration coupled with said plurality of coplanar primary supports in a substantially perpendicular configuration, each one of said plurality of secondary supports including a plurality of fin slots, wherein a fin slot runs substantially across a width of a secondary support;

a plurality of flexible fins, each one of said plurality of flexible fins having an inner edge and an outer edge, said inner edge comprising one or more attachment points configured to couple to one of said plurality of fin slots, and wherein said plurality of attachment points comprises a plurality of holes configured to receive one or more fasteners, wherein said one or more fasteners secure said plurality of flexible fins to said plurality of secondary supports in said plurality of fin slots; and

one or more couplers removably coupling each one of said plurality of flexible fins to at least one or more of said plurality of coplanar secondary supports at said one or more attachment points.
