TRIGGERING ACTIONS IN AN INFORMATION FEED SYSTEM
Disclosed are systems, apparatus, methods, and computer readable media for performing actions in response to information updates provided in an information feed. In one implementation, an information update to be displayed in an information feed is received. The information feed may be capable of being displayed on a display device. The information update may be stored in a feed table for display in the information feed. A determination may be made as to whether the information update includes information satisfying a trigger condition associated with a trigger rule. When the information in the information update satisfies the trigger condition, the trigger rule may be activated. The trigger rule may specify a trigger action to perform in association with the information update.
1 . A method comprising:
receiving an information update to be displayed in an information feed, the information feed capable of being displayed on a display device;
storing the information update in a feed table for display in the information feed;
determining whether the information update includes information satisfying a trigger condition associated with a trigger rule; and
when the information in the information update satisfies the trigger condition, activating the trigger rule, the trigger rule specifying a trigger action to perform in association with the information update.
2 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
translating a text portion of the information update from a first language to a second language to create a translated information update, the translated information update capable of being displayed in an information feed.
3 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
causing a first user account to receive information updates associated with a designated data record or a second user account.
4 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein the trigger action comprises an action selected from the group consisting of:
transmitting a message to a first entity, creating a data object based on the information update and the trigger rule, and creating a scheduled information update for presentation at a designated time.
5 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
determining whether a text portion of the information update includes a designated text segment associated with the trigger condition.
6 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
detecting a status condition associated with a data record stored in a database, the information update being associated with the data record, and
comparing the status condition with the trigger condition.
7 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
executing a first portion of computer code indicated within the information update.
8 . The method recited in claim 1 , the method further comprising:
determining an indication of a scope associated with the trigger rule, the scope identifying a type of information update to which the trigger rule applies, the information update being within the scope.
9 . The method recited in claim 8 , wherein the scope includes information updates associated with a first organization of a plurality of organizations capable of accessing a feed system configured to generate the information feed.
10 . The method recited in claim 8 , wherein the scope includes information updates associated with a first user account of a plurality of user accounts capable of accessing a feed system configured to generate the information feed.
11 . The method recited in claim 1 , wherein the feed table is stored in a multitenant database accessible to a plurality of tenants via an on-demand computing services environment.
12 . A system comprising:
one or more computing devices configured to:
receive an information update to be displayed in an information feed, the information feed capable of being displayed on a display device;
store the information update in a feed table for display in the information feed;
determine whether the information update includes information satisfying a trigger condition associated with a trigger rule; and
when the information in the information update satisfies the trigger condition, activate the trigger rule, the trigger rule specifying a trigger action to perform in association with the information update.
13 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
translating a text portion of the information update from a first language to a second language to create a translated information update, the translated information update capable of being displayed in an information feed.
14 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
causing a first user account to receive information updates associated with a designated data record or a second user account.
15 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein the trigger action comprises an action selected from the group consisting of:
transmitting a message to a first entity, creating a data object based on the information update and the trigger rule, and creating a scheduled information update for presentation at a designated time.
16 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
determining whether a text portion of the information update includes a designated text segment associated with the trigger condition.
17 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
detecting a status condition associated with a data record stored in a database, the information update being associated with the data record, and comparing the status condition with the trigger condition.
18 . The system recited in claim 12 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
executing a first portion of computer code indicated within the information update.
19 . One or more computer readable media having instructions stored thereon for performing a method, the method comprising:
receiving an information update to be displayed in an information feed, the information feed capable of being displayed on a display device;
storing the information update in a feed table for display in the information feed;
determining whether the information update includes information satisfying a trigger condition associated with a trigger rule; and
when the information in the information update satisfies the trigger condition, activating the trigger rule, the trigger rule specifying a trigger action to perform in association with the information update.
20 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
translating a text portion of the information update from a first language to a second language to create a translated information update, the translated information update capable of being displayed in an information feed.
21 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein the trigger action comprises:
causing a first user account to receive information updates associated with a designated data record or a second user account.
22 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein the trigger action comprises an action selected from the group consisting of:
transmitting a message to a first entity, creating a data object based on the information update and the trigger rule, and creating a scheduled information update for presentation in the information feed at a designated time.
23 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
determining whether a text portion of the information update includes a designated text segment associated with the trigger condition.
24 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
detecting a status condition associated with a data record stored in a database, the information update being associated with the data record; and
comparing the status condition with the trigger condition.
25 . The one or more computer readable media recited in claim 19 , wherein determining whether the information update includes information satisfying the trigger condition comprises:
executing a first portion of computer code indicated within the information update.
