Abstract

A method of converting nitrogen oxides in a gas to nitrogen by contacting the nitrogen oxides with a nitrogenous reducing agent in the presence of a zeolite catalyst containing at least one transition metal, wherein the zeolite is a small pore zeolite containing a maximum ring size of eight tetrahedral atoms, wherein the at least one transition metal is selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ce, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, In, Sn, Re, Ir and Pt.

Claims (14)

1. A catalyst comprising at least one small pore aluminosilicate molecular sieve wherein said molecular sieve has a framework type selected from AEI, DDR, LEV, PAU, and UEI, has an SAR of about 8 to about 150, and contains 0.5 to 5 weight percent ion exchanged Cu, the catalyst effective to promote the reaction of NH3 with NOx to form nitrogen and water, selectively.

2. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said framework type is AEI.

3. The catalyst of claim 2 , wherein said molecular sieve SSZ-39.

4. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said framework type is DDR.

5. The catalyst of claim 4 , wherein said molecular sieve is selected from Deca-dodecasil 3R and Sigma-1.

6. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said framework type is LEV.

7. The catalyst of claim 6 , wherein said molecular sieve is selected from Levynite, Nu-3, LZ-132, and ZK-20.

8. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said framework type is PAU.

9. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said framework type is UEI.

10. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said transition metal is an exchanged transition metal.

11. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said catalyst is in a washcoat.

12. The catalyst of claim 11 , wherein said washcoat further comprises a binder selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, non-zeolite silica-alumina, TiO 2 , ZrO 2 , and SnO 2 .

13. The catalyst of claim 12 , wherein said washcoat is disposed in a metal or ceramic flow-through substrate or a ceramic wall-flow filter.

14. The catalyst of claim 1 , wherein said catalyst is in a reactive mixture further comprising NH 3 and NO x , wherein said mixture has a temperature of 175° C. to 550° C.
