Method and apparatus for a client connection manager
View Patent ↗A method and apparatus for a connection manager have been disclosed. By providing for persistent connections with clients, the connection manager allows for servers to communicate with clients, which would otherwise be inaccessible.
1. A method comprising:
establishing from behind a firewall a cached persistent connection that supports TCP;
maintaining the connection from behind the firewall via a keep-alive signal in an active state, or a non-active state selected from the group consisting of inactive, and sleep;
transitioning an active connection to the group consisting of inactive, and sleep based upon a criteria selected from the group consisting of server activity, time, performance, and explicit transition control; and
when said maintaining in said active state no data is sent to a server, and a timestamp of said keep-alive signal is not reset and wherein said keep-alive signal is an empty TCP segment.
