Abstract

The present invention relates to reagents which modify the activity of TWEAK and their use as therapeutic agents for the treatment of immunological disorders.

Claims (13)

1. A method for blocking the development of or treating or reducing the severity or effects of kidney damage resulting from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in an animal, the method comprising the step of administering a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody to TWEAK (TNF-like weak inducer of apoptosis), wherein the antibody binds to a TWEAK polypeptide comprising the amino acids of SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the animal is human.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody binds to a TWEAK polypeptide comprising the amino acids of SEQ ID NO:2.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is a monoclonal antibody.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the monoclonal antibody is the monoclonal antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC Accession No. HB-12622.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is selected from the group consisting of a recombinant antibody, a humanized antibody, or a chimeric antibody.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is an IgG.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the antibody comprises a human constant domain.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the antibody is a chimera of the antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC Accession No. HB-12622.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the antibody comprises variable domains of the antibody produced by the hybridoma having ATCC Accession No. HB-12622.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is administered by a parenteral, subcutaneous, or intravenous route.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody is administered as a liquid composition.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the antibody blocks the binding of human TWEAK-Flag polypeptide to HT29 cells.
