FRAME DESIGN FOR ELECTRONIC SPECTACLES
A first device is provided. The first device comprises a frame, where the frame further comprises: a lens housing adapted to support a first lens and a second lens, a first temple coupled to the lens housing, and a second temple coupled to the lens housing. The first device further comprises a first conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing and a second conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing. The first conductive path is electrically isolated from the second conductive path.
1 . A first device comprising:
a frame further comprising:
a lens housing adapted to support a first lens and a second lens;
a first temple coupled to the lens housing, and
a second temple coupled to the lens housing;
a first conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing; and
a second conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing;
wherein the first conductive path is electrically isolated from the second conductive path.
2 . The first device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one electrical insulator disposed between at least a portion of the first conductive path and the second conductive path.
3 . The first device of claim 2 ,
further comprising a first hinge;
wherein the first temple and the lens housing are coupled to the first hinge; and
wherein the electrical insulator is located at least within the first hinge.
4 . The first device of claim 2 , wherein the electrical insulator is located at least within the first temple.
5 . The first device of claim 2 , wherein the electrical insulator is located at least within the lens housing.
6 . The first device of claim 1 , further comprising an electronics module; wherein the electronics module is coupled to the first temple of the frame, and wherein the first and second conductive paths are electrically connected to the electronics module.
7 . The first device of claim 1 , further comprising
a first lens having a first electrical contact; and
a second lens having a second electrical contact;
wherein the first conductive path electrically connects to the first electrical contact of the first lens; and
wherein the second conductive path electrically connects to the second electrical contact of the second lens.
8 . The first device of claim 7 ,
wherein the first lens further comprises a second electrical contact;
wherein the second lens further comprises a first electrical contact;
wherein the first conductive path electrically connects to the first electrical contact of the second lens; and
where the second conductive path electrically connects to the second electrical contact of the first lens.
9 . The first device of claim 8 , wherein the lens housing comprises a non-conductive material; and wherein the frame element providing the first conductive path comprises a conductive material embedded in the lens housing.
10 . The first device of claim 9 , wherein the frame element providing the second conductive path comprises a conductive material embedded in the lens housing.
11 . The first device of claim 9 , wherein the lens housing comprises acetate.
12 . The first device of claim 8 , wherein the second temple or the second lens does not comprise an electronics module coupled thereto.
13 . The first device of claim 12 , wherein the second temple does not comprise an electronics module.
14 . The first device of claim 8 , wherein the lens housing comprises a conductive material; and wherein at least a part of the first conductive path is provided by a first portion of the lens housing.
15 . The first device of claim 14 , wherein at least a part of the second conductive path is provided by a second portion of the lens housing.
16 . The first device of claim 15 , wherein the first portion of the lens housing is electrically isolated from the second portion of the lens housing by at least one piece of electrically insulating material.
17 . The first device of claim 16 , wherein the first device comprises semi-rimless spectacles.
18 . The first device of claim 16 , wherein the first conductive path and the second conductive path are each disposed within the lens housing of the semi-rimless spectacles.
19 . The first device of claim 16 , wherein the electrically insulating material comprises an injection moldable or similarly formed plastic material.
20 . The first device of claim 19 , wherein the electrically insulating material comprises nylon.
21 . The first device of claim 15 , wherein the first portion of the lens housing and the second portion of the lens housing are separated by an air gap.
22 . The first device of claim 21 ,
wherein the lens housing further comprises a bridge disposed between the first lens and the second lens;
wherein the bridge comprises the first portion and the second portion of the lens housing; and
wherein the air gap is disposed between the first portion and the second portion of the lens housing at the bridge.
23 . The first device of claim 21 , wherein the air gap has a maximum distance of approximately 10 mm.
24 . The first device of claim 15 , wherein the first portion of the lens housing and the second portion of the lens housing comprise metal.
25 . The first device of claim 2 ,
wherein the electrical insulator comprises a first component and a second component;
wherein the first component of the electrical insulator disposed between the first conductive path and the second conductive path comprises the first lens and the second lens.
26 . The first device of claim 25 , wherein the second component of the electrical insulator disposed between the first conductive path and the second conductive path comprises at least one of: an air gap and an electrically insulating material.
27 . The first device of claim 26 , wherein the second component of the electrical insulator is disposed between the first lens and the second lens.
28 . The first device of claim 1 , wherein the lens housing comprises full rimmed spectacle frames.
29 . An first device comprising:
a frame further comprising:
a lens housing adapted to support a first lens and a second lens;
a first temple coupled to the lens housing, and
a second temple coupled to the lens housing;
a first conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing;
a second conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the first temple to the lens housing;
a third conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the second temple to the lens housing; and
a fourth conductive path provided by one or more frame elements from the second temple to the lens housing;
wherein each of the first, second, third, and fourth conductive paths are electrically isolated from each other.
30 . The first device of claim 29 ,
wherein the first conductive path is electrically isolated from the second conductive path by an electric insulator; and
wherein the third conductive path is electrically isolated from the fourth conductive path by an electric insulator.
31 . The first device of claim 29 ,
wherein a first electronics module disposed on the first temple; and
wherein a second electronics module disposed on the second temple.
32 . The first device of claim 31 , further comprising:
a first lens having a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact; and
a second lens having a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact;
wherein the first conductive path electrically connects to the first electrical contact of the first lens;
wherein the second conductive path electrically connects to the second electrical contact of the first lens;
wherein the third conductive path electrically connects to the first electrical contact of the second lens; and
wherein the fourth conductive path electrically connects to the second electrical contact of the second lens.
33 . The first device of claim 32 ,
wherein the first and second conductive paths electrically connect to the first electronics module; and
wherein the third and fourth conductive paths electrically connect to the second electronics module.
