Abstract

A telecommunications cabinet includes a cabinet housing; a fiber optic splitter; a plurality of spools disposed on a cable management surface; a panel oriented at a fixed angle relative to the access opening so that the panel extends laterally and rearwardly between the access opening and the cable management surface; and a plurality of adapters disposed on the panel.

Claims (37)

1. A telecommunications cabinet comprising:

a cabinet housing defining an interior, the cabinet housing having an access opening permitting access to a front of equipment mounted within the interior, the cabinet housing including a door that moves between a closed position covering at least part of the access opening and an open position allowing access to the interior through the access opening;

a fiber optic splitter disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing;

a cable management surface disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing, the cable management surface facing the access opening;

a plurality of spools disposed on the cable management surface;

a panel disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing, the panel being oriented at a fixed angle relative to the access opening so that the panel extends laterally and rearwardly between the access opening and the cable management surface; and

a plurality of adapters disposed on the panel in rows, each row extending from a first end to a second end, the adapters each having a first side into which a first fiber optic connector may be inserted and a second side into which a second fiber optic connector may be inserted;

wherein the spools are positioned closer to the first ends of the rows of adapters than to the second ends, and wherein each spool is positioned to direct first optical fibers from the spools to the adapters from the first ends of the rows.

2. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the cable management surface is disposed at a rear wall of the cabinet housing.

3. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the cable management surface is generally parallel to the access opening.

4. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 3 , wherein the adapters are positioned in a plurality of rows to form a termination region.

5. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 4 , wherein the spools are disposed in a column on the cable management surface.

6. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 5 , wherein the column of spools is taller than the termination region.

7. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein only the first sides of the adapters are accessible through the access opening when the door is in the open position.

8. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a splice module disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing.

9. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a fanout module disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing.

10. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising the plurality of first optical fibers having ends terminated by the first fiber optic connectors, wherein the first fiber optic connectors are inserted into the first sides of the adapters to provide optical connections with customers.

11. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein connections at the second side of the adapters are pre-configured and cabled before the telecommunications cabinet leaves a manufacturing facility.

12. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of connector holder modules located within the interior of the cabinet housing, each connector holder module including a plurality of connector holders into which the first fiber optic connectors may be inserted, each of the inserted fiber optic connectors including a ferrule with a polished end face holding an end of one of the first optical fibers with a dust cap placed about the ferrule and polished end face.

13. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 12 , wherein the first fiber optic connectors are stored at the connector holder module when inactive.

14. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 13 , wherein the connector holders include releasable catches for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

15. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 13 , wherein the connector holders include clip arms for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

16. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 13 , wherein the connector holders include main housings and inner housings mounted within the main housings, the inner housings including clip arms, the inner housings also including cross-pieces that extend between the clip arms and define openings for receiving the dust caps.

17. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 13 , wherein the connector holders define cavities and open ends that permit insertion of the first fiber optic connectors into the cavities.

18. A telecommunications cabinet comprising:

a cabinet housing defining an interior, the cabinet housing having an access opening permitting access to a front of equipment mounted within the interior, the cabinet housing including a door that moves between a closed position covering at least part of the access opening and an open position allowing access to the interior through the access opening;

a fiber optic splitter disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing;

a cable management surface disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing, the cable management surface facing the access opening;

a plurality of spools disposed on the cable management surface;

a panel disposed within the interior of the cabinet housing, the panel being oriented at a fixed angle relative to the access opening so that the panel extends laterally and rearwardly between the access opening and the cable management surface;

a plurality of adapters disposed on the panel, the adapters each having a first side into which a first fiber optic connector may be inserted and a second side into which a second fiber optic connector may be inserted; and

a plurality of connector holder modules are located within the interior of the cabinet housing, each connector holder module including a plurality of connector holders into which the first fiber optic connectors may be inserted, each of the inserted fiber optic connectors including a ferrule with a polished end face holding an end of an optical fiber with a dust cap placed about the ferrule and polished end face.

19. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 18 , wherein the first fiber optic connectors are stored at the connector holder module when inactive.

20. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 19 , wherein the connector holders include releasable catches for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

21. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 19 , wherein the connector holders include clip arms for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

22. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 19 , wherein the connector holders include main housings and inner housings mounted within the main housings, the inner housings including clip arms, the inner housings also including cross-pieces that extend between the clip arms and define openings for receiving the dust caps.

23. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 19 , wherein the connector holders define cavities and open ends that permit insertion of the first fiber optic connectors into the cavities.
