Abstract

A gaming machine cabinet has a cabinet door is pivotally connected thereto and movable between a closed and open positions. A cabinet door button panel includes a panel support surface opposite the door's inner side, a capture structure at a first boundary of a button panel opening, and a blocking structure at a button panel second boundary opposite the first boundary. A button panel base has a first edge received in a button panel frame capture structure, and second edge received on the panel support surface. A locking flange with a locking projection extends from the button panel base lower side, the locking projection moveable between extended and retracted positions. With the button panel base in an operating position, a locking projection may be placed in the extended position to contact the blocking structure and thereby retain the button panel base in the operating position.

Claims (24)

1. A gaming machine including:

(a) a cabinet that defines an interior volume and a front opening;

(b) a door pivotally connected to the cabinet so as to be pivotable between a closed position covering at least a portion of the front opening and an open position in which an inner side of the door is accessible from outside of the cabinet;

(c) a button panel holding one or more buttons adapted for receiving player input, the button panel mounted at a second opening in the door; and

(d) a locking mechanism adapted for locking the button panel in place in the second opening and releasing the button panel from the second opening, the locking mechanism adapted to be accessible by an operator at the inner side of the door but not at an outer side of the door.

2. The gaming machine of claim 1 wherein the locking mechanism includes a biased locking flange.

3. The gaming machine of claim 1 wherein the locking mechanism includes a locking flange having two laterally spaced apart locking projections, each being connected to a respective positioning knob.

4. The gaming machine of claim 3 wherein each locking projection is biased to the extended position with a suitable biasing spring.

5. The gaming machine of claim 1 in which the second opening includes a panel support surface mounted therealong, formed as part of an armrest structure.

6. A gaming machine including:

(a) a cabinet that defines an interior volume, an interior surface, and an exterior surface, and including a front side having one or more electronic displays mounted therealong and at least one ledge;

(b) a button panel holding one or more buttons for receiving player input, the button panel mounted at an opening along the front side of the gaming machine; and

(c) a locking mechanism adapted for locking the button panel in place in the opening and releasing the button panel from the opening, the locking mechanism adapted to be accessible for unlocking, and thereby releasing the button panel, by an operator having access to the interior volume of the gaming machine, but not accessible without access to the interior volume.

7. The gaming machine of claim 6 wherein the locking mechanism includes a biased locking flange.

8. The gaming machine of claim 6 wherein the locking mechanism includes a locking flange having two laterally spaced apart locking projections, each being connected to a respective positioning knob.

9. The gaming machine of claim 8 wherein each locking projection is biased to the extended position with a suitable biasing spring.

10. The gaming machine of claim 8 in which the opening includes a panel support surface mounted therealong, formed as part of an armrest structure.

11. A button panel assembly adapted for mounting to a gaming machine to present buttons along an exterior surface of the gaming machine, the button panel assembly comprising:

(a) a panel with top and bottom sides and holding a plurality of buttons presented along the top side; and

(b) a locking mechanism adapted for locking the panel in place in an opening in the gaming machine and releasing the panel from the opening, the panel adapted to present the plurality of buttons along an outer surface of the gaming machine when locked in place in the opening, the locking mechanism including a biased locking projection activateable from the bottom side of the panel to release the panel from the opening.

12. The button panel assembly of claim 11 , wherein the assembly is adapted to be installed in an opening in a door of the gaming machine.

13. The button panel assembly of claim 11 , wherein the locking mechanism further comprises a biased locking flange.

14. The button panel assembly of claim 13 , further comprising blocking structure means for receiving the biased locking flange.

15. The button panel assembly of claim 11 , further comprising button panel frame means for receiving the button panel.
