Surgical instruments
View Patent ↗A surgical device. The surgical device may comprise a transducer configured to provide vibrations along a longitudinal axis and an end effector coupled to the transducer and extending from the transducer along the longitudinal axis. The surgical device also may comprise a lower jaw extending parallel to the end effector. The lower jaw may comprise a clamp face extending toward the longitudinal axis. Also, the lower jaw may be slidable relative to the end effector to bring the clamp face toward a distal end of the end effector.
1. A surgical device comprising:
a transducer configured to energize an end effector, wherein the end effector is coupled to the transducer;
a trigger mechanism actuatable to cause the end effector to be energized;
a sensor positioned to sense a force exerted on the trigger mechanism; and
a control circuit in communication with the sensor, wherein the control circuit is configured to:
provide power to the end effector in response to an actuation of the trigger mechanism;
receive from the sensor a signal indicating an increase in the force exerted on the trigger mechanism after the actuation of the trigger mechanism; and
increase the power delivered to the end effector by the transducer in response to the signal.
2. The surgical device of claim 1 , further comprising a feedback device in communication with the control circuit, wherein the feedback device is configured to indicate power delivered to the end effector.
3. The surgical device of claim 2 , wherein the control circuit is configured to delay a predetermined amount of time between indicating a change in power delivered to the end effector and increasing the power delivered to the end effector by the transducer.
4. The surgical device of claim 2 , further comprising a light source, wherein the light source indicates an amount of power delivered to the end effector by the transducer.
5. The surgical device of claim 2 , further comprising a speaker configured to generate an audible signal indicating an amount of power delivered to the end effector by the transducer.
6. The surgical device of claim 2 , wherein the device is configured to provide an audible signal as the force exerted on the trigger mechanism increases.
7. The surgical device of claim 1 , wherein the control circuit is configured not to exceed a predetermined power delivered to the end effector by the transducer.
8. The surgical device of claim 1 , further comprising a clamp arm pivotable toward the end effector about a pivot point.
9. The surgical device of claim 8 , wherein the trigger mechanism is actuatable to pivot the clamp arm about the pivot point.
10. A method for processing a surgical instrument for surgery, comprising:
obtaining the surgical device of claim 1 ;
sterilizing the surgical device; and
storing the surgical device in a sterile container.
11. The surgical device of claim 1 , wherein the trigger mechanism comprises at least one of a foot switch and a hand switch.
