POWER MANAGEMENT FOR A DUAL MODE SUBSCRIBER DEVICE
A method of authenticating a user seeking access to an unlicensed wireless communication system includes delivering to an unlicensed wireless communication subscriber device licensed wireless communication system security information. An authentication result produced by the subscriber device is processed in response to the licensed wireless communication system security information. The authentication result is compared with an authentication value to selectively produce an authentication command. Unlicensed wireless communication between the subscriber device and an unlicensed wireless communication system base station is enabled in response to the authentication command.
1 . (canceled)
2 . A method comprising:
a subscriber device (SD) operating on a licensed communication network via licensed wireless circuitry;
the SD switching operation from the licensed communication network to operating on an unlicensed communication network via unlicensed wireless circuitry; and
the SD deactivating the licensed wireless circuitry after the SD has switched operation to the unlicensed communication network.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein deactivating the licensed wireless circuitry comprises shutting down the licensed wireless circuitry.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein deactivating the licensed wireless circuitry comprises setting the licensed wireless circuitry to a low power state.
5 . A method comprising:
a subscriber device (SD) operating on an unlicensed communication network via unlicensed wireless circuitry;
the SD switching operation from the unlicensed communication network to operating on a licensed communication network via licensed wireless circuitry; and
the SD turning off power to the unlicensed wireless circuitry after the SD has switched operation to the licensed communication network.
6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:
the SD waking unlicensed wireless circuitry to sniff for a base station.
