Abstract

Dermatological compositions (methods of making and using) that include one or more anesthetic agents and/or one or more anti-inflammatory agents and/or a combination of ammonium, sodium, and potassium salts, preferably of an alpha-hydroxy acid.

Claims (43)

1 - 75 . (canceled)

76 . A dermatological composition comprising:

at least one ammonium salt of an alpha-hydroxy acid;

at least one potassium salt of an alpha-hydroxy acid; and

at least one sodium salt of an alpha-hydroxy acid;

wherein the ammonium salt is present in the composition in an amount of at least 8% by weight to about 40% by weight, the sodium salt is present in the composition in an amount of about 1% by weight to about 30% by weight; and the potassium salt is present in the composition in an amount of about 1% by weight to about 30% by weight.

77 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 which is odor-free.

78 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising an anesthetic, an anti-inflammatory agent, or a combination thereof.

79 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 wherein the ammonium salt of the alpha-hydroxy acid is present in the composition in an amount of at least 8 wt.-% to about 30 wt.-%.

80 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 wherein the alpha-hydroxy acid is of the formula R—CH(OH)—COOH, and wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a C 1 to C 5 alkyl group.

81 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 wherein the alpha-hydroxy acid is lactic acid.

82 . The dermatological composition of claim 81 comprising:

ammonium lactate in an amount of about 10% to about 15% by weight;

potassium lactate in an amount of about 3% to about 7% by weight; and

sodium lactate in an amount of about 3% to about 7% by weight.

83 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 comprising at least 10 wt.-% ammonium lactate.

84 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 wherein the composition has a pH of about 3 to about 6.

85 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one anti-foaming agent.

86 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one non-ionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of glyceryl stearate, PEG 100-stearate, polyoxyl-20-cetostearyl ether, glyceryl monooleate, glyceryl palmitosterate, self-emulsifying wax, polyoxyl-20-stearate, polyoxyl-40-stearate, polyoxyl-60-stearate, polyoxyl-80-stearate, polyoxyl-20-oleate, polyoxyl-40-oleate, polyoxyl-60-oleate, polyoxyl-80-oleate, polyoxyl-20-palmitate, polyoxyl-40-palmitate, polyoxyl-60-palmitate, polyoxyl-80-palmitate, emulsifying wax, laureth-2, laureth-4, laureth-6, laureth-8, and combinations thereof.

87 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one preservative selected from the group consisting of methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, propyl paraben, propyl paraben sodium salt, propyl paraben potassium salt, butyl paraben, and combinations thereof.

88 . The dermatological composition of claim 87 wherein the preservative is present in the composition in an amount of about 0.02 wt.-% to about 1 wt.-%.

89 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one humectant selected from the group consisting of glycerin 99.5%, glycerin 95%, glycerin 85%, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, and combinations thereof.

90 . The dermatological composition of claim 89 wherein the humectant is present in the composition in an amount of about 1 wt.-% to about 15 wt.-%.

91 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one anti-inflammatory agent.

92 . The dermatological composition of claim 76 further comprising at least one anesthetic agent.

93 . A method of treating or preventing a dry skin disorder of a subject, the method comprising contacting the subject's skin with the dermatological composition of claim 76 .

94 . A dermatological composition comprising:

at least 8 weight percent to about 40 weight percent of ammonium lactate;

about 1 weight percent to about 30 weight percent of sodium lactate;

about 1 weight percent to about 30 weight percent of potassium lactate;

about 1 weight percent to about 20 weight percent of light mineral oil;
