Abstract

Disclosed herein are compounds that may be specific to PPAR and/or EGF receptors, and methods of making and using same.

Claims (19)

1. A compound of formula I:

wherein X is C 1 -C 3 alkylene, optionally substituted with one, two or three substituents selected from halogen or hydroxyl;

R 1 is selected from the group consisting of C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 3 -C 6 cycloalkyl, C 2 -C 6 alkenyl, and C 2 -C 6 alkynyl;

R 2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C 1 -C 6 alkyl;

R 3 is independently selected, for each occurrence from the group consisting of hydrogen, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, cyano, C 3 -C 6 cycloalkyl, hydroxyl, and nitro;

R 4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C 1 -C 6 alkyl;

R 5 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 6 alkyl;

or pharmaceutically acceptable salts or N-oxides thereof.

2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 1 is C 1 -C 6 alkyl.

3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 1 is methyl.

4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein, for each occurrence, R 3 is hydrogen.

5. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 5 is methyl or ethyl.

6. The compound of claim 1 , wherein X is (CH 2 ) n , wherein n is 1 or 2.

7. The compound of claim 6 , wherein n is 1.

8. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the compound is represented by:

10. The compound N-acetyl-(R)-(−)-3-(4-aminophenyl)-2-methoxypropionic acid.

11. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or N-oxide thereof, according to claim 1 and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

12. A method of treating acne in a subject in need thereof, comprising administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 10 .
