Compositions and method for treating infection in cattle and swine
Novel formulations containing a fluorinated chloramphenicol or thiamphenicol derivative antibiotic such as florfenicol, and methods for using such formulations in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases of bovines and swine, including bovine respiratory disease.
1. A composition for the treatment of microbial infection in an animal consisting of florfenicol; and
a) triacetin, and
b) 2-pyrrolindone.
2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the florfenicol is present in an amount of about 10% to about 50% w/v.
3. The composition of claim 2 , wherein the florfenicol is present in an amount of about 30% to about 40% w/v.
4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the triacetin is present in an amount of about 15% to about 60% w/v.
5. The composition of claim 4 , wherein the triacetin is present in an amount of about 30% w/v.
6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the 2-pyrrolidone is present in an amount of about 30% w/v.
7. The composition of claim 1 further comprising a stabilizer.
8. The composition of claim 7 , wherein the stabilizer is citric acid.
9. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition has a viscosity of less than about 125 cps.
