Abstract

A clamp block kit for use on a machine having an adjustment mechanism employing a shaft and associated nut. The clamp block kit comprises a clamp block assembly securable about the nut and a mounting rail fastenable to the clamp block assembly with at least one second fastener. The clamp block assembly includes a first clamp including at least one threaded first hole, a second clamp including at least one second hole alignable with a respective first hole when in an assembled state, and at least one first fastener for extending into the aligned first and second holes.

Claims (44)

1. A metal forming machine, comprising:

a clamp block kit for use on the machine having an adjustment mechanism employing a lead screw defining an elongation axis and associated nut, the clamp block kit including:

a clamp block assembly engaged with the associated nut to be selectably axially movable along the elongation axis of the lead screw by operation of the lead screw and including:

a first clamp including at least one threaded first hole;

a second clamp including at least one second hole alignable with a respective said at least one first hole when in an assembled state; and

at least one first fastener for extending into the aligned said first and second holes wherein said clamp block assembly is engaged with the associated nut by clamping the nut between said first clamp and said second clamp; and,

a mounting rail fastenable to said clamp block assembly with at least one second fastener,

a tooling rail secured to the mounting rail,

and plurality of metal forming rollers secured to the tooling rail.

2. A clamp block kit according to claim 1 wherein said mounting rail is fastenable adjacent to said first clamp.

3. A clamp block kit according to claim 2 wherein said at least one threaded first hole is a through hole.

4. A clamp block kit according to claim 3 wherein said at least one second fastener extends into said at least one threaded first hole.

5. A clamp block kit according to claim 4 wherein said at least one threaded first hole is a pair of first holes, said at least one second hole is a pair of second holes, and said at least one first fastener is a pair of first fasteners.

6. A metal forming machine, comprising:

a mounting rail assembly having an adjustment mechanism employing at least a first lead screw defining a first elongation axis and being operationally engaged with a first nut and a second lead screw defining a second elongation axis parallel to the first elongation axis and being operationally engaged with a second nut, the mounting rail assembly including:

at least a pair of clamp block assemblies with a first clamp block assembly operational engaged with the first nut to be selectably axially movable along the elongation axis of the first lead screw by operation of the first lead screw, and

a second clamp block assembly operational engaged with the second nut to be selectably axially movable along the elongation axis of the second lead screw by operation of the second lead screw, each of the clamp block assemblies including:

a first clamp including at least one threaded first hole; a second clamp including at least one second hole alignable with a respective said at least one first hole when in an assembled state;

at least one first fastener for extending into the aligned said first and second holes;

wherein the first clamp block assembly is engaged with the first nut by clamping the nut between the first clamp of the first clamp block assembly and the second clamp of the first clamp block assembly; and wherein the second clamp block assembly is engaged with the second nut by clamping the nut between the first clamp of the second clamp block assembly and the second clamp of the second clamp block assembly; and,

an elongate mounting rail fastenable to said clamp block assemblies,

a tooling rail secured to the mounting rail,

and plurality of metal forming rollers secured to the tooling rail.

7. A metal forming machine, comprising:

amounting rail assembly for positionally adjusting machine toolsets, the mounting rail assembly including:

an elongated lead screw defining an elongation axis capable of being rotatably mounted to the machine;

a nut threadably and operationally engaged with said lead screw to be selectably axially movable along the elongation axis of the lead screw by operation of the lead screw;

a clamp block assembly secured about said nut and including: a first clamp including at least one threaded first hole; a second clamp including at least one second hole aligned with a respective said at least one first hole; and

at least one first fastener extending into the aligned said first and second holes;

wherein said clamp block assembly is secured about the associated nut by clamping the nut between said first clamp and said second clamp; and,

an elongate mounting rail fastened to said first clamp and capable of supporting at least one toolset,

a tooling rail secured to the mounting rail,

and plurality of metal forming rollers secured to the tooling rail.

8. A mounting rail assembly according to claim 7 wherein said mounting rail includes at least one transversely extending slot, and including at least one second fastener extending through said at least one slot to engage said at least one threaded first hole, whereby said mounting rail is selectively adjustable along said slot.

9. A mounting rail assembly according to claim 8 including indicia on the mounting rail indicative of an offset mounting rail position.

10. A method of configuring the location of a toolset in a metal forming machine, comprising:

providing a rail structure extending in a longitudinal direction including an upstream and downstream segment, each segment including an associated transversely extending projection shaft coupled thereto and operative to adjust the segment in a transverse direction upon rotation thereof;

further providing said upstream segment with a nut threadably engaged with its said associated projection shaft, a clamp block assembly secured about said nut, and an elongate mounting rail fastened to said clamp block assembly, said mounting rail capable of supporting the toolset; and,

moving said mounting rail in a transverse direction relative to said downstream segment while maintaining the relative position of said nut with respect to said projection shafts,

further providing the toolset, wherein the toolset includes a tooling rail and plurality of metal forming rollers, the tooling rail is supported and secured to the mounting rail, and the metal forming rollers are secured to the tooling rail.

11. The method according to claim 10 including moving said mounting rail in a transverse direction along slots formed therethrough.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the associated projection shaft is a lead screw defining an elongation axis;

a clamp block assembly is secured about said nut by clamping the nut within the clamp block assembly; and,

the clamp block assembly is selectably axially movable along the elongation axis of the lead screw by operation of the lead screw.
