Abstract

A facial cushion for a goggle may have a plurality of layers which provide cushioning, cooling and ergonomic fit functions. The top layer which contacts the wearer's face may have an embossed pattern which creates an air space between the wearer's face and the top layer for providing a cooling function. The embossed top layer also increases the total surface area of the top layer thereby increasing its wicking ability and reduces the total skin contact surface area of the top layer reducing heat. Additionally, the cushion may be thicker at left and right end portions to maintain contact with the wearer's face despite pulling of the left and right ends of the goggle when the goggle is worn with a helmet.

Claims (10)

1. An apparatus for interfacing between eyewear for active sports and a person's face, the apparatus comprising:

a facial cushion having a wicking material and a compressible inner core with the wicking material covering the compressible inner core, the wicking material defining an interface surface, the interface surface having a raised surface and a depressed surface, the raised surface contoured to directly contact a wearer's face for wicking sweat away from the wearer's face, the depressed surface gapped away from the wearer's face which provides an air space between the wearer's face and the depressed surface;

wherein the facial cushion is attached to the eyewear and the contoured raised surface of the interface surface is in direct contact with the person's face when the eyewear is worn by the person.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the raised surface is higher than the depressed surface about 0.25 mm to about 4.5 mm.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the raised surface is higher than the depressed surface about 1.5 mm.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein interface surface has one or more raised surfaces and one or more depressed surfaces which define a pattern of at least one parallelogram, triangle, squares, rectangles, donuts, circles, nested triangles, nested parallelograms, nested squares, and combinations thereof.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein the pattern defines one or more dead air spaces.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the compressible inner core is a foam padding, the foam padding being attached to the wicking material.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a middle portion of the facial cushion is thinner compared to left and right end portions of the facial cushion to accommodate outward pull from a strap for holding the eyewear to the person's face.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the facial cushion has at least one raised surface which circumscribes an outer periphery of the interface surface for providing a dead air space central to the outer periphery.
