Abstract

There is provided an illumination device equipped with a light guide plate having a light emission face and a light incident face, a printed substrate having a first plane and a second plane opposite to the first plane, a plurality of point like light sources for supplying light to the light guide plate, a housing disposed at a opposite side of the light emission face of the light guide plate, and a light source holding member for holding the printed substrate. The light source holding member has a bend portion, and a edge of the bend portion is inserted in between the light guide plate and the housing.

Claims (15)

1. An illumination device, comprising:

a light guide plate having a light emission face and a light incident face;

a printed substrate having a first plane and a second plane opposite to the first plane;

a plurality of point light sources for supplying light to the light guide plate, the plurality of point light sources each having a mounting surface and a luminescence surface facing the light incident face of the light guide plate, the plurality of the point light sources being mounted at a predetermined interval on the first plane of the printed substrate with the mounting surfaces contacting the first plane;

a housing disposed at an opposite side of the light emission face of the light guide plate; and

a light source holding member having a light source supporting part contacting the second plane of the printed substrate for holding the printed substrate, the light source holding member having a bend portion bent from the light source supporting part in cross-section view,

wherein an edge of the bend portion inserted in between the light guide plate and the housing serves as a spacer for assuring a clearance between the light sources and the light guide plate.

2. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein each of the point light sources is a light emitting diode (LED).

3. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein, the luminescence surface is opposite to the mounting surface.

4. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein the light source holding member has an L shaped cross-section.

5. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein the bend portion is bent in a direction perpendicular to the light source supporting part.

6. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein the housing has a difference in level for inserting the edge of the bend portion in between the light guide plate and the housing.

7. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein a side edge of the printed substrate is in contact with a plane of the bend portion on a side of the housing.

8. The illumination device according to claim 1 , wherein centers of the plurality of point light sources are lower than a center of the printed substrate in a width direction of the printed substrate.

9. A liquid crystal display device comprising the illumination device according to claim 1 and a liquid crystal panel for receiving light emitted by the illumination device.
