Abstract

The present invention provides a composition suitable for intranasal administration comprising capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin, and nordihydrocapsaicin in the form of capsicum used as a therapeutic agent.

Claims (102)

1 . A composition suitable for intranasal administration to a human in need thereof comprising:

an effective amount of an aqueous homeopathic dilution of capsicum;

wherein the composition is suitable for intranasal administration;

wherein administration of the composition relieves at least one rhinitis symptom in the human in need thereof.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises nasal congestion.

10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pressure.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pain.

12 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises headache.

13 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition does not require the administration of a second agent to enable tolerance of the composition.

14 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition is self-administered.

15 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the homeopathic dilution of capsicum comprises about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids.

16 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the homeopathic dilution of capsicum comprises about 0.3 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

17 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the homeopathic dilution of capsicum comprises about 0.5 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

18 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.02% to about 0.25% w/w.

19 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.05% to about 0.10% w/w.

20 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.06% to about 0.07% w/w.

21 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising eucalyptol at a concentration of about 0.07% to about 0.15% w/w.

22 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising vegetable glycerin at a concentration of about 3.5% to about 5.0% w/w.

23 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising vegetable glycerin at a concentration of about 3.9% to about 4.5% w/w.

24 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising ascorbic acid at a concentration of about 0.10% to about 0.90% w/w.

25 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising sea salt at a concentration of about 0.40% to about 1.2% w/w.

26 . A composition suitable for intranasal administration to a human in need thereof comprising:

an effective amount of an aqueous solution of capsicum at a concentration of about 0.00060% to about 0.010% w/w containing about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids;

wherein the composition is suitable for intranasal administration;

wherein administration of the composition relieves at least one rhinitis symptom in the human in need thereof.

27 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

28 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

29 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

30 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

31 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

32 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

33 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

34 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises nasal congestion.

35 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pressure.

36 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pain.

37 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises headache.

38 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the aqueous solution of capsicum is at a concentration of about 0.0020% to about 0.0080% w/w containing about 0.3 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

39 . The composition of claim 26 , wherein the aqueous solution of capsicum is at a concentration of about 0.0030% to about 0.0080% w/w containing about 0.5 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

40 . The composition of claim 26 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.02% to about 0.25% w/w.

41 . The composition of claim 26 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.05% to about 0.10% w/w.

42 . The composition of claim 26 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.06% to about 0.07% w/w.

43 . A composition suitable for intranasal administration to a human in need thereof comprising:

an effective amount of an aqueous solution of capsicum at a concentration of about 0.00060% to about 0.010% w/w containing about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids;

rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.02% to about 0.25% w/w;

wherein the composition is suitable for intranasal administration;

wherein administration of the composition relieves at least one rhinitis symptom in the human in need thereof.

44 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

45 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

46 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

47 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

48 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

49 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

50 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

51 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises nasal congestion.

52 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pressure.

53 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises sinus pain.

54 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the rhinitis symptom relieved comprises headache.

55 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the aqueous solution of capsicum is at a concentration of about 0.0020% to about 0.0080% w/w containing about 0.3 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

56 . The composition of claim 43 , wherein the aqueous solution of capsicum is at a concentration of about 0.0030% to about 0.0080% w/w containing about 0.5 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.

57 . The composition of claim 43 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.05% to about 0.10% w/w.

58 . The composition of claim 43 , comprising rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.06% to about 0.07% w/w.

59 . A method for the treatment of rhinitis symptoms administered to a human in need thereof comprising the steps of:

administering intranasally a composition comprising an effective amount of an aqueous homeopathic dilution of capsicum to a human in need thereof; and

effecting the relief from at least one rhinitis symptom.

60 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

61 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

62 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

63 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

64 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

65 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

66 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the rhinitis symptom comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

67 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the capsicum is present in the composition at a concentration of about 0.00060% to about 0.010% w/w containing about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids.

68 . A method for the treatment of rhinitis symptoms administered to a human in need thereof comprising the steps of:

administering intranasally an effective amount of a composition comprising an aqueous homeopathic dilution of capsicum , and rosemary extract to a human in need thereof;

effecting the relief from at least one rhinitis symptom.

69 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

70 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

71 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

72 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

73 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

74 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

75 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rhinitis symptom comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

76 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the capsicum is present in the composition at a concentration of about 0.00060% to about 0.010% w/w containing about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids.

77 . The method of claim 68 , wherein the rosemary extract is present in the composition at a concentration of about 0.02% to about 0.25% w/w.

78 . A method for the treatment of rhinitis symptoms administered to a human in need thereof comprising the steps of:

administering intranasally an effective amount of a composition comprising about 0.00060% to about 0.010% w/w capsicum containing about 0.1 to about 2.0 ppm total capsaicinoids, and rosemary extract at a concentration of about 0.02% to about 0.25% w/w;

effecting the relief from at least one rhinitis symptom.

79 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is vasomotor rhinitis.

80 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is non-allergic rhinitis.

81 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis.

82 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is mixed rhinitis.

83 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is allergic rhinitis with a non-allergic component.

84 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis is idiopathic rhinitis.

85 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the rhinitis symptom comprises at least one of nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus pain, headache or a combination thereof.

86 . The method of claim 78 , wherein the capsicum is present in the composition at a concentration of about 0.0020% to about 0.0080% w/w containing about 0.3 to about 1.5 ppm total capsaicinoids.
