Abstract

A gaming machine includes a gaming console. A display is mounted in the gaming console for displaying a wagering game and its result. A controller controls operation of the game, the controller displaying the result of a first game on the display, making payment of a prize if the first game has a prize winning result and, thereafter, irrespective of the result of the first game, varying a result displayed on the display without requiring any additional wager by a player whether before or after completion of the first game.

Claims (41)

1. A method, comprising:

generating a first spin of a plurality of reels of a gaming machine to obtain a first plurality of symbols displayed by the plurality of reels;

determining a first count of a predetermined symbol present in the first plurality of symbols;

generating a second spin of the plurality of reels of the gaming machine to obtain a second plurality of symbols displayed by the plurality of reels;

determining a second count of the predetermined symbol present in the second plurality of symbols; and

triggering a feature of the gaming machine in response to determining that the sum of the first count and the second count exceeds a threshold value.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

said determining a first count comprises counting how many of the predetermined symbol are displayed upon the plurality of reels regardless of whether the predetermined symbol aligns with a pay line of the gaming machine; and

said determining a second count comprises counting how many of the predetermined symbol are displayed upon the plurality of reels regardless of whether the predetermined symbol aligns with a pay line of the gaming machine.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

said generating a first spin comprises spinning all reels of the plurality of reels; and

said generating a second spin comprises spinning a subset of the plurality of reels.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

awarding a first prize in response to the first plurality of symbols comprising a winning group of symbols in alignment with a pay line of the gaming machine; and

awarding a second prize in response to the second plurality of symbols comprising a winning group of symbols in alignment with a pay line of the gaming machine.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

awarding a first prize if the first plurality of symbols comprises a winning group of symbols in alignment with a pay line of the gaming machine; and

generating the second spin of the plurality of reels regardless of whether the first plurality of symbols comprises a winning group of symbols.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising awarding a free series of games in response to triggering the feature.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a screen animation in response to triggering the feature.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

generating a first spin comprises displaying a first video simulation of spinning reels upon a screen; and

generating a second spin comprises displaying a second video simulation of spinning reels upon a screen.

9. A method, comprising:

receiving a single wager with a gaming machine having a plurality of reels;

awarding a plurality of spins of the plurality of reels in response to receiving the single wager;

generating the plurality of spins to obtain a plurality of outcomes, wherein each outcome comprises a plurality of symbols;

accumulating a count of a predetermined symbol across the plurality of outcomes; and

triggering a feature of the gaming machine based upon a relationship between the count and a threshold value.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said accumulating comprises counting how many of the predetermined symbol are displayed upon the plurality of reels across the plurality of outcomes regardless of whether the predetermined symbol aligns with a pay line of the gaming machine.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein generating the plurality of spins comprises:

spinning all reels of the plurality of reels to obtain a first outcome of the plurality of outcomes; and

after said spinning all reels, spinning a subset of the plurality of reels to obtain a second outcome of the plurality of outcomes.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising awarding a separate prize for each outcome of the plurality of outcomes based upon whether each outcome comprises a winning group of symbols in alignment with a pay line of the gaming machine.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising: awarding a first prize if a first outcome of the plurality of outcomes comprises a winning group of symbols; and generating the remaining spins of the plurality of spins regardless of whether the first outcome comprises a winning group of symbols.

14. The method of claim 9 , further comprising awarding a free series of games in response to triggering the feature.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising displaying a screen animation in response to triggering the feature.

16. An apparatus for playing a wagering game, the apparatus comprising a plurality of spinning reels configured to display an outcome comprising a plurality of symbols; a user interface configured to receive user input; a validation device configured to generate an indication that a single wager sufficient to play the wagering game has been placed; and a control system configured to spin the plurality of spinning reels a predetermined number of times to obtain the predetermined number of outcomes in response to user input and the indication that the single wager has been placed; wherein the predetermined number is greater than one; and wherein the control system is further configured to accumulate a count of a predetermined symbol across the predetermined number of outcomes and trigger a feature of the gaming machine based upon a relationship between the count and a threshold value.

17. The machine of claim 16 , wherein the control system is further configured to award a free series of games in response to triggering the feature.

18. The machine of claim 17 , wherein the control system is further configured to display a screen animation in response to triggering the feature.

19. The machine of claim 17 , wherein the control system is further configured to award a separate prize for each outcome of the predetermined number of outcomes based upon whether each outcome comprises a winning group of symbols, and to spin the plurality of reels the predetermined number of time regardless of non-winning outcomes of the predetermined number of outcomes.
