pass a user identifier from the client device over the network, wherein the user identifier is associated with a user account maintained by a payment service provider system,

receive dynamic content at the client device over the network from the merchant system, wherein the dynamic content is determined by the payment service provider system based on the user identifier, and

perform the access, pass, and receive operations without requiring a user of the client device to actively engage with the payment service provider.

14. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the payment service provider system is adapted to receive the user identifier and provide the dynamic content to the merchant system in response thereto.

15. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the application is adapted to cause the client device to pass the user identifier from the client device to the merchant system over the network, wherein the payment service provider system is adapted to receive the user identifier from the merchant system.

16. The client device of claim 14 , wherein the application is adapted to cause the client device to pass the user identifier from the client device to the payment service provider system over the network.

17. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the dynamic content is in a webpage.

18. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the dynamic content comprises text or a graphic image.

19. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the dynamic content identifies rating information for a merchant associated with the merchant system or identifies the existence of an account balance associated with the user account.

20. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the user identifier comprises a cookie stored by the client device or a registry entry stored by the client device.

21. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the client device is a wireless telephone.

22. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the application is adapted to cause the client device to display the dynamic content to the user.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the application is adapted to cause the client device to display the dynamic content to the user in a toolbar interface.

24. The client device of claim 13 , wherein the application is adapted to cause the client device to perform the access operation in response to an action by the user.
