Ophthalmic system with synergistic properties
View Patent ↗Disclosed herein are ophthalmic cleaning systems and methods for their use, which comprise an ophthalmic solution and lens case, wherein the solution includes dual disinfectants and the lens case includes silver. When the lens case is combined with the solution according to the system of the present invention, it surprisingly exhibits synergistic activity which results in a faster antimicrobial activity.
1. A method of disinfecting a contact lens comprising contacting a contact lens with a solution in a silver-releasing contact lens case, wherein the solution comprises:
0.00016 wt % alexidine:
0.0003 wt % polyquaternium-1;
0.05 wt % ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid;
0.25 wt % sodium chloride;
0.60 wt % boric acid;
0.15 wt % sodium borate decahydrate;
0.65 wt % sodium citrate dihydrate; and
0.10 wt % of a poly(oxyethylene)-poly(oxypropylene) block copolymer and further wherein the method provides synergistic antimicrobial activity against at least one gram-negative bacterium.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the lens case releases from about 1 ug/L to about 1000 ug/L of silver ions into the solution.
