Abstract

An optical scanning device includes a housing, the interior of which is partitioned into a first compartment and a second compartment by a base; a light source arranged in the first compartment and adapted to emit a beam; a first optical component arranged on an optical path of the beam in the first compartment; a second optical component arranged on the optical path of the beam in the second compartment; an aperture formed in the base to allow the beam to pass from the first compartment to the second compartment or from the second compartment to the first compartment; and a reinforcing member for reinforcing the rigidity of the base near the aperture.

Claims (61)

1. An optical scanning device, comprising:

a housing, the interior of which is partitioned into a first compartment and a second compartment by a base;

a light source arranged in the first compartment and adapted to emit a beam;

a first optical component arranged on an optical path of the beam in the first compartment;

a second optical component arranged on the optical path of the beam in the second compartment;

an upstream aperture formed in the base to allow the beam to pass from the first compartment to the second compartment and a downstream aperture formed in the base to allow the beam to pass from the second compartment to the first compartment; and

a pressing portion for pressing the base between the upstream aperture and the downstream aperture; wherein

the first optical component includes:

a polarizer for polarizing a beam emitted from the light source,

an upstream first imaging lens and a down stream second imaging lens for converting the beam polarized by the polarizer into constant-speed scanning light, the first and second imaging lenses being arranged along a propagation direction of the beam; and

a first reflecting mirror for reflecting the constant-speed scanning light and introducing the constant-speed scanning light reflected by the first reflecting mirror to the second compartment through the upstream aperture;

the second optical component includes:

a second reflecting mirror for further reflecting the constant-speed scanning light reflected by the first reflecting mirror to cause the constant-speed scanning light to propagate along the base, and

a third reflecting mirror for further reflecting the constant-speed scanning light reflected by the second reflecting mirror and introducing the constant-speed scanning light reflected by the second reflecting mirror to a surface to be scanned through the downstream aperture;

the first imaging lens is placed on the base near the polarizer,

the second imaging lens is placed on the base between the upstream aperture and the downstream aperture; and

the pressing portion presses the base via the second imaging lens.

2. An optical scanning device according to claim 1 , wherein:

the reinforcing member is a light transmissive member to be fitted into the aperture.

3. An optical scanning device according to claim 2 , wherein:

the light transmissive member is interference-fitted in the aperture.

4. An optical scanning device according to claim 2 , wherein the light transmissive member is a parallel plate.

5. An optical scanning device according to claim 2 , wherein:

the aperture is a rectangular aperture long in a main scanning direction; and

the light transmissive member is a parallel plate having a shape slightly larger than that of the aperture and interference-fitted in the aperture.

6. An optical scanning device according to claim 1 , wherein:

the imaging lens is placed on the base near the downstream aperture, and

the pressing portion presses the base near the downstream aperture via the imaging lens.

7. An optical scanning device according to claim 6 , wherein:

the housing includes a lid arranged to face the base; and

the pressing portion is a projection projecting from the lid toward the base.

8. An optical scanning device according to claim 6 , wherein:

the base is a horizontal flat plate member;

the first compartment is arranged above the second compartment;;

the housing includes a lid for closing an upper part of the first compartment; and

the pressing portion is a projection projecting from the lid toward the base and the bottom end of the projection comes into contact with an upper part of the imaging lens to press the base in a vertical direction via the imaging lens.

9. An optical scanning device according to claim 6 , wherein:

the base is a horizontal flat plate member;

the first compartment is arranged above the second compartment;

the housing includes a lid for closing an upper part of the first compartment; and

the pressing portion is a projection projecting from the lid toward the base and the bottom end of the projection comes into contact with the base near the aperture to press the base in a vertical direction.

10. An image forming apparatus, comprising:

an image carrier, on the circumferential surface of which an electrostatic latent image is to be formed; and

an optical scanning device for irradiating the circumferential surface with light; wherein

the optical scanning device includes:

a housing, the interior of which is partitioned into a first compartment and a second compartment by a base;

a light source arranged in the first compartment and adapted to emit a beam;

a first optical component arranged on an optical path of the beam in the first compartment;

a second optical component arranged on the optical path of the beam in the second compartment;

an upstream aperture formed in the base to allow the beam to pass from the first compartment to the second compartment and a downstream aperture formed in the base to allow the beam to pass from the second compartment to the first compartment; and

a pressing portion for pressing the base between the upstream aperture and the downstream aperture; wherein

the first optical component includes:

a polarizer for polarizing a beam emitted from the light source,

an upstream first imaging lens and a down stream second imaging lens for converting the beam polarized by the polarizer into constant-speed scanning light, the first and second imaging lenses being arranged along a propagation direction of the beam; and
