Abstract

The present application is directed to a stent, and more particularly to a radially self-expandable metallic stent, including a serpentine configuration having a plurality of struts and having a plurality of proximal and distal apices; and a barb integrally formed as an extension of each strut and extending outwardly from a position on each strut; where the barb has an elevation angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 10 degrees to about 45 degrees.

Claims (50)

1. A radially self-expandable metallic stent, comprising:

a serpentine configuration having a plurality of struts and having a plurality of proximal and distal apices; and

a barb integrally formed as an extension of each strut and extending outwardly from a position on each strut;

wherein the barb has an elevation angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 10 degrees to about 45 degrees; and

wherein the proximal apices are curved apices having an outer surface with a circular radius of curvature of between about 0.030 inch to about 0.070 inch.

2. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of proximal apices is up to six apices.

3. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of distal apices is up to six apices.

4. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the barb has a kick angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 5 degrees to about 70 degrees.

5. The stent of claim 1 , wherein a length of the barb ranges from about 1 mm to about 5 mm.

6. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the stent is formed from a single piece of material.

7. The stent of claim 6 , wherein the stent comprises a superelastic alloy.

8. The stent of claim 7 , wherein the superelastic alloy comprises NiTi.

9. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the barb terminates in a sharp point.

10. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the proximal and distal apices are curved apices.

11. The stent of claim 1 , wherein the proximal apices have an inner surface with a circular radius of curvature of between about 0.005 inch to about 0.020 inch.

12. The stent of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of struts has a width from about 0.016 inch to about 0.032 inch.

13. A radially self-expanding stent having integrally formed barbs comprising:

a plurality of struts connected by curved apices and having a barb on each strut, each strut and barb comprising a barb/strut interface in which there is no mechanical connection to join the barb to the strut;

wherein the barb on each strut extends outwardly from the strut; and

wherein the apices have an outer surface with an outer radius of curvature from about 0.030 inch to about 0.070 inch and an inner surface with an inner radius of curvature of about 0.010 inch to about 0.030 inch.

14. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of proximal apices is up to six apices.

15. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of distal apices is up to six apices.

16. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the barb has an elevation angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 10 degrees to about 45 degrees.

17. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the barb has a kick angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 5 degrees to about 70 degrees.

18. The stent of claim 13 , wherein a length of the barb ranges from about 1 mm to about 5 mm.

19. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the stent is formed from a single piece of material.

20. The stent of claim 19 , wherein the stent comprises a superelastic alloy.

21. The stent of claim 20 , wherein the superelastic alloy comprises NiTi.

22. The stent of claim 13 , wherein the barb terminates in a sharp point.

23. A system for the endovascular treatment of body passageways comprising:

a graft; and

a radially self-expandable metallic stent, comprising:

a serpentine configuration having a plurality of struts and having a plurality of proximal and distal apices; and

a barb integrally formed as an extension of each strut and extending outwardly from a position on each strut;

wherein the barb has an elevation angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of a strut from which the barb extends of about 10 degrees to about 45 degrees; and

wherein the proximal apices are curved apices having an outer surface with a circular radius of curvature of between about 0.030 inch to about 0.070 inch;

wherein the stent is affixed to the graft.

24. The system of claim 23 , wherein the graft comprises polyester.

25. The system of claim 23 , wherein the stent comprises NiTi.

26. The system of claim 23 , further comprising a delivery system.

27. A system for the endovascular treatment of body passageways comprising:

a graft; and

a radially self-expanding stent having integrally formed barbs comprising:

a plurality of struts connected by curved apices and having a barb on each strut, each strut and barb comprising a barb/strut interface in which there is no mechanical connection to join the barb to the strut;

wherein the barb on each strut extends outwardly from the strut; and

wherein the apices have an outer surface with an outer radius of curvature from about 0.030 inch to about 0.070 inch and an inner surface with an inner radius of curvature of about 0.010 inch to about 0.030 inch;

wherein the stent is affixed to the graft.

28. The system of claim 26 , wherein the graft comprises polyester.

29. The system of claim 26 , wherein the stent comprises NiTi.

30. The system of claim 26 , further comprising a delivery system.
