Abstract

Transparent ink-jet recording films, compositions, and methods are disclosed. These films exhibit high maximum optical densities and have low haze values. These films are useful for medical imaging.

Claims (11)

1 . A method comprising:

forming a first composition comprising gelatin and at least one borate or borate derivative; and

forming a second composition comprising at least one anionic polymer and the first composition.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising forming a transparent ink jet recording film by a method comprising coating a substrate with the second composition.

3 . The transparent ink-jet recording film prepared according to the method of claim 2 .

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one borate or borate derivative comprises sodium tetraborate decahydrate.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one anionic polymer comprises sodium polystyrene sulfonate.

6 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one anionic polymer has a weight average molecular weight greater than about 100,000 g/gmol.

7 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one second composition has a viscosity less than about 50 cP at 40° C., when measured at a shear rate of 10 sec −1 .

8 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one second composition is an under-layer coating mix.

9 . A transparent ink-jet recording film comprising at least one under-layer disposed on a substrate, said under-layer comprising gelatin, at least one borate or borate derivative, and at least one anionic polymer with weight average molecular weight greater than about 100,000 g/mol.
