Abstract

Embodiments are described for handling focus when a gesture is input in a multi-screen device. In embodiments, the gesture indicates that two images, one that is in focus, swap positions. In response to receiving the gesture, the image in focus is moved from a first display of a first screen to a second display of a second screen. After the images are swapped, the focus is maintained on the image that originally had the focus.

Claims (47)

1 . A method, comprising:

displaying by at least one processor a first image on a first display of a first screen;

displaying by the at least one processor a second image on a second display of a second screen, wherein the second image is in focus;

receiving, by at least one of a gesture capture region and a touch sensitive area, a gesture indicating a request to move the first viewed image to the second display and move the second viewed image to the first display;

in response to receiving the gesture:

displaying the first image in the second display;

displaying the second image on the first display; and

maintaining by the at least one processor the focus on the second image in the first display.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gesture is a pinch gesture.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first image comprises at least a portion of a desktop and the second image comprises at least a second portion of the desktop.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first image comprises a first window and the second image comprises a second window.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first image comprises a first icon and the second image comprises a second icon.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving input indicating that in response to the gesture, the focus should be maintained on the second image.

7 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

highlighting a second configurable area on the second screen when the second image is displayed on the second display and is in focus; and

highlighting a first configurable area on the first screen when the second image is displayed on the first display and is in focus.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to the at least one processor displaying the second image on the first display, lighting a portion of a first configurable area of the fist screen and allowing input from the first configurable area.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

in response to the at least one processor displaying the second image on the first display, darkening a portion of a second configurable area of the second screen.

10 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer executable instructions that when executed by at least one processor perform a method comprising:

receiving, by a gesture capture region, a pinch gesture indicating a request to move a first window that is in focus and displayed on a first display of a first screen to a second display of a second screen, and a second window that is displayed on the second display to the first display;

in response to receiving the pinch gesture one or more processors, moving the first window to the second display and the second window to the first display; and

maintaining the focus on the first window on the second display.

11 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the moving the first window comprises displaying the first window in an area of the second display that at least partially overlaps an area where the second window was displayed.

12 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the moving the second window comprises displaying the second window in an area of the first display that at least partially overlaps an area where the first window was displayed.

13 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the method further comprises:

in response to the moving, darkening a portion of a first configurable area of the first screen and highlighting a portion of a second configurable area of the second screen.

14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the method further comprises:

in response to the moving, lighting a portion of a second configurable area of the second screen and allowing input from the second configurable area.

15 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the first window is highlighted before receiving the gesture, and the highlighting of the first window is maintained after the moving.

16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving input indicating that in response to the pinch gesture, the focus should be maintained on a window currently in focus.

17 . A dual screen communication device, comprising:

a gesture capture region to receive a gesture; and

a first touch sensitive display;

a second touch sensitive display;

a computer readable medium that stores computer executable instructions that when executed by at least one processor perform a method comprising:

receiving, by one or more of the gesture capture region, the first touch sensitive display, and the second touch sensitive display, a gesture indicating a request to swap positions of a first image displayed on the first touch sensitive display and a second image displayed on the second touch sensitive display;

moving by at least one processor the first image to the second touch sensitive display, and the second image to the first touch sensitive display; and

maintaining a focus on a one of the first image and the second image that has the focus prior to the receiving step.

18 . The device of claim 17 , wherein the moving comprises displaying the first image in an area of the second display that at least partially overlaps an area where the second window was displayed, and displaying the second image in an area of the first display that at least partially overlaps an area where the first window was displayed.

19 . The device of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises:

allowing input from the one of the first touch sensitive display and the second touch sensitive display that is displaying the one of the first image and the second image that has the focus.

20 . The device of claim 17 , wherein the method further comprises:

not allowing input from the one of the first touch sensitive display and the second touch sensitive display that is not displaying the one of the first image and the second image that has the focus.
