Abstract

A system may determine an extent to which a document is selected when the document is included in a set of search results, generate a score for the document based, at least in part, on the extent to which the document is selected when the document is included in a set of search results; and rank the document with regard to at least one other document based, at least in part, on the score.

Claims (90)

1. A method comprising:

determining, by one or more server devices and at a first time, a first position of a document with respect to a first set of documents in a first list of search results, the first position being based on a first score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the first set of documents in the first list of search results;

determining, by at least one of the one or more server devices and at a second time, a second position of the document with respect to a second set of documents in a second list of search results, the second position being based on a second score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the second set of documents in the second list of search results,

determining, by at least one of the one or more server devices, an amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position;

generating, by at least one of the one or more server devices, a third score for the document based on the determined amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position; and

ranking, by at least one of the one or more server devices, the document against at least one other document based on the third score.

2. The method of claim 1 , where determining the amount or rate of change includes:

determining a number of positions between the first position and the second position, and

where generating the third score for the document includes:

generating the third score based on the determined number of positions.

3. The method of claim 1 , where determining the amount or rate of change includes:

determining a rate at which the document moves between the first position and the second position, and

where generating the third score for the document includes:

generating the third score based on the determined rate.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, based on a query, information regarding sets of documents,

where at least two of the sets of documents include the document, and

where determining the amount or rate of change includes:

determining the amount or rate of change of the document within the at least two sets of documents.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining that the document is based on a particular search query, for which a quantity of documents that are based on the particular search query has increased over time, and

where generating the third score is further based on:

determining that the document is based on the particular search query.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a search query; and

generating a search result document, where the search result document includes an ordered list that includes information identifying the document and information identifying the at least one other document,

where the ordered list is based on the ranking.

7. The method of claim 1 , where generating the third score for the document includes:

altering a relevancy score, associated with the document, that is based on a relevance of the document to a search query.

8. A system, comprising:

a memory device storing instructions; and

one or more processors to execute the instructions to:

determine, at a first time, a first position of a document with respect to a first set of documents in a first list of search results, the first position being based on a first score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the first set of documents in the first list of search results;

determine, at a second time, a second position of the document with respect to a second set of documents in a second list of search results, the second position being based on a second score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the second set of documents in the second list of search results;

determine an amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position;

generate a third score for the document based on the determined amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position; and

rank the document against at least one other document based on the third score.

9. The system of claim 8 , where, when determining the amount or rate of change, the one or more processors are to:

determine a number of positions between the first position and the second position, and

where, when generating the third score for the document, the one or more processors are to:

generate the third score based on the determined number of positions.

10. The system of claim 8 , where, when determining the amount or rate of change, the one or more processors are to:

determine a rate at which the document moves between the first position and the second position, and

where, when generating the third score for the document, the one or more processors are to:

generate the score third score on the determined rate.

11. The system of claim 8 , where the one or more processors are further to:

receive, based on a query, information regarding sets of documents,

where at least two of the sets of documents include the document, and

where, when determining the amount or rate of change, the one or more processors are to:

determine the amount or rate of change of the document within the at least two sets of documents.

12. The system of claim 8 , where the one or more processors are further to:

determine that the document is based on a particular search query, for which a quantity of documents that are based on the particular search query has increased over time, and

where, when generating the third score for the document, the one or more processors are to:

determine that the document is based on the particular search query.

13. The system of claim 8 , where the one or more processors are further to:

receive a search query; and

generate a search result document, where the search result document includes an ordered list that includes information identifying the document and information identifying the at least one other document,

where the ordered list is based on the ranking.

14. The system of claim 8 , where when generating the third score for the document, the one or more processors are to:

alter a relevancy score, associated with the document, that is based on a relevance of the document to a search query.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable memory device, comprising:

one or more instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

determine, at a first time, a first position of a document with respect to a first set of documents in a first list of search results, the first position being based on a first score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the first set of documents in the first list of search results;

determine, at a second time, a second position of the document with respect to a second set of documents in a second list of search results, the second position being based on a second score of the document with respect to one or more scores associated with the second set of documents in the second list of search results;

determine an amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position;

generate a third score for the document based on the determined amount or rate of change between the first position and the second position; and

rank the document against at least one other document based on the third score.

16. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions to determine the amount or rate of change further cause the one or more processors to:

determine a number of positions between the first position and the second position, and

where the one or more instructions to generate the third score for the document further cause the one or more processors to:

generate the third score based on the determined number of positions.

17. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions to determine the amount or rate of change further cause the one or more processors to:

determine a rate at which the document moves between the first position and the second position, and

where the one or more instructions to generate the third score for the document further cause the one or more processors to:

generate the third score based on the determined rate.

18. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

receive information regarding sets of documents based on a query

where at least two of the sets of documents include the document, and

where the one or more instructions to determine the amount or rate of change further cause the one or more processors to:

determine the amount or rate of change of the document within the at least two sets of documents.

19. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

determine that document is based on a particular search query, for which a quantity of documents that are based on the particular search query has increased over time, and

where the one or more instructions to generate the third score further cause the one or more processors to:

determine that the document is based on the particular search query.

20. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions further cause the one or more processors to:

receive a search query; and

generate a search result document, where the search result document includes an ordered list that includes information identifying the document and information identifying the at least one other document,

where the ordered list is based on the ranking.

21. The computer-readable memory device of claim 15 , where the one or more instructions to generate the third score for the document further cause the one or more processors to:
