Abstract

A cartridge for containing toner material used in an image-forming device according to one example embodiment includes a developer roll, two J-seals that provide interfaces with the developer roll at the ends thereof, and an air duct that conducts airflow across the interfaces to cool the developer roll and seals. The air duct is an unitary structure including an elongated hollow body and a pair of nozzles in fluid communication with the hollow body. One of the nozzles is disposed at a distal end of the developer roll near one J-seal, and the other of the nozzles is disposed at a proximal end of the developer roll near the second J-seal.

Claims (25)

1. An air duct insertably positionable within a cartridge for use in an image forming device and having a reservoir for containing toner material and a developer roll positioned to transfer the toner material to a photoconductive drum, the air duct comprising:

a unitary structure that includes an elongated hollow body having an inlet for receiving air flow and a first nozzle and a second nozzle extending from the elongated hollow body and in fluid communication with an interior of the elongated hollow body for receiving air flow from the elongated hollow body, the first nozzle having a first outlet positioned to direct air flow onto an outer circumference of the developer roll at a first axial end of the developer roll and the second nozzle having a second outlet positioned to direct air flow onto the outer circumference of the developer roll at a second axial end of the developer roll when the air duct is positioned within the cartridge.

2. The air duct of claim 1 , wherein the inlet of the elongated hollow body includes a neck portion for connecting the air duct to an air source.

3. The air duct of claim 1 , wherein the first nozzle and the second nozzle taper in an axial direction and have irregular quadrilateral cross-sections.

4. A cartridge for containing toner material used in an image forming device, comprising:

a developer roll; and

an air duct positioned within the cartridge, the air duct comprising:

an elongated hollow body having an inlet positioned to receive air flow from an air blower when the cartridge is installed in the image forming device; and

a nozzle extended from the elongated hollow body and in fluid communication with an interior of the elongated hollow body for receiving air flow from the elongated hollow body, the nozzle having an outlet positioned to direct air flow onto an outer circumference of the developer roll.

5. The cartridge of claim 4 , wherein the elongated hollow body of the air duct has a substantially regular rectangular cross-section.

6. The cartridge of claim 4 , wherein the nozzle tapers in an axial direction and has an irregular quadrilateral cross-section.

7. The cartridge of claim 4 , further comprising a seal providing an interface with the developer roll and the toner material, wherein the seal is located at one of a proximal end and a distal end of the developer roll; and the outlet of the nozzle is positioned to direct air flow to the interface.

8. The cartridge of claim 7 , wherein the nozzle tapers in an axial direction and has an irregular quadrilateral cross-section.

9. A cartridge for containing toner material used in an image forming device comprising:

a developer roll;

a first seal positioned at a first axial end of the developer roll and a second seal positioned at a second axial end of the developer roll, each of the first and second seals providing an interface with the developer roll and said toner material; and

an air duct positioned within the cartridge, the air duct comprising:

an elongated hollow body having an inlet positioned to receive air flow from an air blower when the toner cartridge is installed in the image forming device; and

a first nozzle and a second nozzle extending from the elongated hollow body and in fluid communication with an interior of the elongated hollow body for receiving air flow from the elongated hollow body, the first nozzle having a first outlet positioned to direct air flow onto an outer circumference of the developer roll at the interface between the developer roll and the first seal and the second nozzle having a second outlet positioned to direct air flow onto the outer circumference of the developer roll at the interface between the developer roll and the second seal.

10. The cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the elongated hollow body of the air duct has a substantially regular rectangular cross-section.

11. The cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the inlet of the elongated hollow body of the air duct has a neck portion in fluid communication with the air blower.

12. The cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the first and second nozzles taper in an axial direction and have irregular quadrilateral cross-sections.

13. The cartridge of claim 7 , wherein the seal further comprises a first seal and a second seal, the first seal located at a proximal end of the developer roll and the second seal located at a distal end of the developer roll forming a first interface and a second interface, respectively; and the nozzle further comprises a first nozzle and a second nozzle, the first nozzle having a first outlet positioned to direct air flow to the first interface, and the second nozzle having a second outlet positioned to direct air flow to the second interface.

14. The cartridge of claim 4 , wherein the air duct is formed as a unitary structure positioned in the cartridge, the unitary structure including the elongated hollow body and the nozzle.

15. The cartridge of claim 9 , wherein the air duct is formed as a unitary structure positioned in the cartridge, the unitary structure including the elongated hollow body and the first and second nozzles.
