Spray-dried blood products and methods of making same
View Patent ↗The present invention is directed to a method of preparing dehydrated blood products, comprising the steps of: (a) providing a hydrated blood product; (b) spray-drying the hydrated blood product to produce a dehydrated blood product, as well as dehydrated blood products made by the method. The present invention is directed to a method of treating a patient suffering from a blood-related disorder, comprising the steps of: (a) rehydrating a therapeutic amount of the dehydrated blood products to produce a rehydrated therapeutic composition; and (b) administering the rehydrated therapeutic composition to the patient. The present invention is directed to a bandage or surgical aid comprising the dehydrated blood products described above.
1. A method of preparing dehydrated plasma, comprising the steps of:
a. providing hydrated plasma having a first level of activities of clotting factors;
b. measuring said first level of activities of clotting factors;
c. spray-drying said hydrated plasma at a temperature between about 110° C. to about 140° C. to produce dehydrated plasma, wherein said activities of clotting factors are preserved;
d. measuring a second level of activities of said clotting factors after said spray-drying; and
e. rehydrating said dehydrated plasma comprising said second level of activities of clotting factors that are essentially the same as said first level of clotting factors.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said hydrated plasma is physically or chemically modified.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said modification is chemical fixation.
4. The method of claim 2 , wherein said modification comprises additional diagnostic or therapeutic reagents.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said diagnostic or therapeutic reagents are selected from the group consisting of imaging agents, concentration factors, performance enhancement drugs, antimicrobial and antiviral reagents, universal donor solutions, and combinations thereof.
6. A method of preparing dehydrated plasma, comprising the steps of:
a. providing hydrated plasma having a first level of activities of clotting factors;
b. measuring said first level of activities of clotting factors;
c. spray-drying said hydrated plasma at a temperature between 110° C. to 140° C. to produce dehydrated plasma having a second level of activities of clotting factors; and
d. measuring said second level of activities of clotting factors after said spray-drying, wherein said activities of clotting factors are preserved after said spray-drying such that said first and second levels of activities of clotting factor levels of said hydrated plasma and of said dehydrated plasma are essentially the same.
