Abstract

A computer-implemented transformational protocol is applied to contextually transform an originating computer-implemented structure into a fuzzy network-based structure. The originating structure may be a hierarchy, for example. The fuzzy network-based structure is adaptively modified based on behavioral information, and recommendations delivered to users may be generated in accordance with the fuzzy network-based structure and inferences from a plurality of usage behaviors. The recommendations may be generated in accordance with a network neighborhood within the fuzzy network-based structure that is based, at least in part, on a navigational context within the originating structure.

Claims (46)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

selecting a first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure comprising an activity stream and a second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure from a plurality of computer-implemented structures responsive to a user's explicit selection of the first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure and the second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure from a selection interface;

invoking a transformational protocol executed on a processor-based computing device, wherein the transformational protocol is applied to transform the first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure and the second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure into a computer-implemented fuzzy network-based structure; and

invoking a fuzzy network modification function, wherein the fuzzy network modification function modifies the fuzzy network-based structure in accordance with an inference generated from a plurality of usage behaviors.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

invoking the transformational protocol, wherein the transformational protocol is applied to transform a hierarchical-based structure into a fuzzy network-based structure.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

invoking the transformational protocol, wherein the transformational protocol is applied to transform a view-based structure into a fuzzy network-based structure.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a recommendation that is generated in accordance with the fuzzy network-based structure and an inference from a plurality of usage behaviors.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

receiving the recommendation, wherein the recommendation is of a person with an inferred level of expertise.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a recommendation generated in accordance with a recommendation preference setting established by the recommendation recipient.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

viewing a computer-generated visualization of the fuzzy network-based structure.

8. A computer-implemented system, comprising:

an originating system selection function executed on a processor-based computing device that enables a user to explicitly select from a plurality of computer-implemented structures through use of a selection interface a first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure comprising an activity stream and a second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure;

a transforming function executed on a processor-based computing device that applies a transformational protocol to transform the first non-fuzzy network-based structure and the second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based structure into a computer-implemented fuzzy network-based structure; and

a modification function that modifies the fuzzy network-based structure in accordance with an inference from a plurality of usage behaviors.

9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

the transforming function, wherein the transforming function transforms a hierarchical-based structure into the fuzzy network-based structure.

10. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

the transforming function, wherein the transforming function transforms a view-based structure into the fuzzy network-based structure.

11. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a recommendation function that generates a recommendation in accordance with the fuzzy network-based structure and an inference from a plurality of usage behaviors.

12. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:

an expertise discovery function that generates the recommendation in accordance with an inferred level of expertise.

13. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a recommendation preference function that applies a recommendation preference setting established by a user.

14. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a fuzzy network visualization function that displays a representation of the fuzzy network to a user.

15. A computer-implemented system, comprising:

an originating system selection function executed on a processor-based computing device that enables a first user to explicitly select from a plurality of computer-implemented structures through use of a selection interface a first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure comprising an activity stream and a second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure;

a transforming function executed on a processor-based computing device that applies a transformational protocol to transform the first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure and the second computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure into a computer-implemented fuzzy network-based structure, wherein the fuzzy network-based structure comprises a plurality of objects and affinities among the objects; and

a computer-implemented recommendation function that generates a recommendation for delivery to the first user in accordance with a plurality of the affinities and an inference from a plurality of usage behaviors.

16. The system of claim 15 , further comprising:

the recommendation function, wherein the recommendation function delivers to the first user the recommendation in accordance with a navigational context of the first user within the first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure.

17. The system of claim 15 , further comprising:

the recommendation function, wherein the recommendation function delivers to the first user the recommendation in accordance with an inference of expertise associated with a second user.

18. The system of claim 17 , further comprising:

an explanation function that delivers an explanation to the first user as to why the recommendation was delivered to the first user.

19. The system of claim 15 , further comprising:

the recommendation function, wherein the recommendation function delivers to the first user the recommendation in accordance with a navigational neighborhood associated with the fuzzy network-based structure, wherein the navigational neighborhood is based, at least in part, on a user navigational context within the first computer-implemented non-fuzzy network-based originating structure.

20. The system of claim 19 further comprising:

a navigational neighborhood scoping function that adjusts the scope of the navigational neighborhood in accordance with a navigational scope established by a user.
