Abstract

A system and method for computer-implemented adaptive soundtracks selects and arranges songs in media instances in accordance with inferred preferences based, at least in part, on usage behaviors. Variations of the system and method include automatically selecting and/or arranging the songs in accordance with the contents of the songs, the tagging of the songs, a physical location, and physiological responses. Information as to why songs were selected for inclusion in media instances may be provided to media instance recipients.

Claims (43)

1 . A method, comprising:

contributing a plurality of usage behaviors to a computer-implemented usage function through use of a mobile processor-based device; and

interacting with a media instance executed on the mobile processor-based device, wherein the media instance comprises a plurality of songs, wherein the plurality of songs are automatically selected for inclusion in, and arranged in, the media instance in accordance with an inference of a preference based, at least in part, on the plurality of usage behaviors.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

contributing the plurality of usage behaviors, wherein one behavior of the plurality of behaviors is a physiological response.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

interacting with the media instance, wherein the plurality of songs are selected for inclusion in the media instance in accordance with at least one tag that is associated with at least one song of the plurality of songs.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

interacting with the media instance, wherein the plurality of songs are selected for inclusion in the media instance in accordance with an automatically determined location.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

interacting with the media instance, wherein the plurality of songs are selected for inclusion in the media instance in accordance with the inference of the preference, wherein the inference of the preference is based, at least in part, on usage behaviors associated with a plurality of users.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

interacting with the media instance, wherein the plurality of songs are selected for inclusion in the media instance in accordance with the inference of the preference, wherein the inference of the preference is based, at least in part, on the contents of at least one song of the plurality of songs.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

listening to the plurality of songs, wherein the plurality of songs are arranged in a sequence that is adjustable by a user.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an explanation as to why at least one song of the plurality of songs was included in the media instance.

9 . A computer-implemented system, comprising:

a computer-implemented usage function that accesses a plurality of usage behaviors associated with a user interacting with a first media instance, wherein the first media instance comprises a first plurality of songs; and

a media instance-generating function executed on a processor-based device that selects and arranges a second plurality of songs for inclusion in a second media instance, wherein the selection and arrangement of the plurality of songs are in accordance with an inference of a preference that is based, at least in part, on the plurality of usage behaviors.

10 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

a computer-implemented function that monitors a physiological response.

11 . The system of claim 10 , further comprising:

the computer-implemented function that monitors the physiological response, wherein the physiological response is a gesture.

12 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

the media instance-generating function that selects the second plurality of songs for inclusion in the second media instance, wherein the selection is in accordance with at least one tag associated with at least one song of the second plurality of songs.

13 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

the media instance-generating function that selects the second plurality of songs for inclusion in the second media instance, wherein the selection is in accordance with an automatically determined physical location.

14 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

the media instance-generating function that selects the second plurality of songs for inclusion in the second media instance in accordance with the inference of the preference, wherein the inference of the preference is based, at least in part, on a plurality of usage behaviors associated with a plurality of users.

15 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

the media instance-generating function that selects the second plurality of songs for inclusion in the second media instance, wherein the selection is in accordance with the contents of at least one song of the second plurality of songs.

16 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

an explanatory function that delivers information to the user as to why at least one song of the second plurality of songs was included in the second media instance.

17 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

an advertising delivery function that selects an audio-based advertisement for inclusion in the second media instance.

18 . A computer-implemented system, comprising:

a media instance-generating function executed on a processor-based device that selects a plurality of songs for sequential arrangement in a media instance, wherein the selection is in accordance with an inference of a preference that is based, at least in part, on a plurality of usage behaviors; and

a computer-implemented explanatory function that provides a reason to the recipient of the media instance for the selection of at least one song of the plurality of songs for inclusion in the media instance.

19 . The device of claim 18 , further comprising

the media instance-generating function that selects the plurality of songs for inclusion in the media instance, wherein the selection is in accordance with the contents of at least one song of the plurality of songs.

20 . The device of claim 18 , further comprising

a computer-implemented explanatory function that provides a reason to the recipient of the media instance for the sequential arrangement of at least two songs of the plurality of songs.
