Abstract

A method of treating breast cancer that is at least partially ER + is disclosed. The method comprises administering at a tumor site in a mammalian subject a pharmaceutically acceptable form of Fe(II) or Fe(III) in a suitable carrier. A four-part program aimed at eradicating breast cancer includes (a) local treatment and prevention of spread from a contained breast site, preferably using local administration of a ferric iron composition, (b) treatment of disseminated (metastatic) breast cancer, (c) reduction in the risk of developing breast cancer, preferably by enhancing dimeric/polymeric IgA and polymeric IgM inhibition of estrogen responsive cell growth, and (d) protection against cancer causing agents.

32 . A method of treating ER + breast cancer comprising administering an immunogen, wherein the immunogen causes an increase in the number of IgA or IgM secreting B lymphocytes in breast tissue.

33 . The method of claim 32 , wherein both IgA secreting B lymphocytes and IgM secreting B lymphocytes increase in number.

34 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the immunogen is administered orally, nasally, rectally, or by vaginal challenge.

35 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the immunogen is administered orally.

36 . The method of claim 35 , wherein the immunogen is in the form of a tablet, food product, or food drink.

37 . The method of claim 32 further comprising administering IgA, IgM, Fc fragments of IgA, Fc fragments of IgM, or combinations thereof.

38 . The method of claim 32 further comprising administering tamoxifen.

39 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the immunogen is administered to a subject during puberty.

40 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the immunogen is administered to a subject after menopause.

41 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the immunogen is bacteria or a bacterial component.

42 . The method of claim 41 , wherein the bacteria is Escherichia coli.

43 . The method of claim 42 , wherein the bacterial component is derived from E. coli.

44 . The method of claim 41 , wherein the bacteria is live.

45 . The method of claim 41 , wherein the bacteria is attenuated.

46 . The method of claim 32 , wherein the immunogen causes an increase in inhibitory immunoglobulins.

47 . A method of treating ER + breast cancer comprising administering IgA, IgM, Fc fragments of IgA, Fc fragments of IgM, or combinations thereof.

48 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the food product is genetically modified.
