Abstract

A system and method for developing trust in an organization supported tracking system by ensuring that resources in a resource library are collected from trusted sources, and encouraging and tracking participation in organization supported activities designed to achieve a long term goal of the organization. Resources may be submitted by organization members and ranked according to multiple factors including the trustworthiness of the source, the relevance of the resource to the long term goal, or the response of the organization members to the resource. Participation may be encouraged through friendly competition, awards granted for participation, and publication of member accomplishments. Tracking may be facilitated by allowing members to create initiatives and actions related to the long term goal which members may follow and join and then tracking and verifying member participation in those initiatives and actions.

Claims (73)

1 . A system for creating organization supported initiatives comprising:

a memory for storing organization membership information and organization supported initiative information; and

wherein said new initiative is designed to encourage organization members to participate in an activity that supports a long-term goal of the organization.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further configured to determine if the organization member has permission to create a new initiative, and if the organization member does not have permission to create a new initiative, to send a new initiative request to an organization administrator before creating the new initiative.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is further configured to determine if the new initiative requires approval before said publishing, and if the new initiative requires approval, to send an approval request to an organization administrator before publishing the new initiative.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said initiative further includes an initiative associated action.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein said processor is configured to receive information sufficient to define the initiative associated action from the organization member during creation of the initiative.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein said processor is further configured to define the initiative associated action using a default action.

7 . The system of claim 4 , wherein said initiative associated action facilitates a competition between organization members.

8 . The system of claim 4 , wherein said processor is further configured to receive an action participation notification and to store in memory with the initiative information, a completion record for the initiative associated action.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein said processor is further configured to publish the action participation notification in an initiative related news feed.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein said processor is further configured to publish said action participation notification in an organization related news feed.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein said action participation notification includes verification that the organization member participated in the initiative associated action.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein said verification includes a photo of the organization member participating in the initiative associated action.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein said verification includes an attendance list received from an initiative associated action moderator.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein said action participation notification includes the results of a competition.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said publishing further comprises transmitting an email message describing the new initiative to organization members.

16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said publishing further comprises posting a notification message describing the new initiative at a system related webpage.

17 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said publishing further comprises sending a notification message describing the new initiative to a system inbox for each member of the organization.

18 . A system for tracking participation efforts in organization supported initiatives comprising:

a memory that stores organization membership data and initiative data;

a server connected to a network, said server configured to:

receive a participation notification indicating that an organization member has participated in an initiative associated action; and

a controller configured to:

store the participation notification in said memory, and

publish said participation notification,

wherein said action is an activity that supports a long-term goal of the organization.

19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein said controller is further configured to publish the participation notification in an initiative related news feed.

20 . The system of claim 18 , wherein said controller is further configured to publish said participation notification in an organization related news feed.

21 . The system of claim 18 , wherein said participation notification includes verification that the organization member participated in the initiative associated action.

22 . A computer implemented method for creating organization supported initiatives comprising:

storing organization membership information in a non-transitory memory accessible by a processor;

receiving, at the processor, a request to create a new initiative from an organization member;

receiving, at the processor, information sufficient to create a new initiative from the organization member;

storing the new initiative in the memory; and

publishing the new initiative to other members of the organization;

wherein said new initiative is designed to encourage organization member participation in an activity that supports a long-term goal of the organization.

23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:

determining with the processor if the organization member has permission to create a new initiative; and

if the organization member does not have permission to create a new initiative, sending a new initiative request to an organization administrator and receiving at the processor a response to the request before said publishing.

24 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:

determining with the processor if the new initiative requires approval before said publishing; and

if the new initiative requires approval, sending an approval request to an organization administrator and receiving at the processor an affirmative response to the request before said publishing.

25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein an organization member participates in an initiative associated action.

26 . The method of claim 25 , further comprising receiving information sufficient to define an initiative associated action from the organization member during creation of the new initiative.

27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein an initiative associated action is defined by the processor as a default action.

28 . The method of claim 25 , wherein said initiative associated action organizes a competition between organization members.

29 . The method of claim 25 , further comprising:

receiving at a processor an action participation notification; and

storing in memory a completion record for the initiative associated action with the initiative information.

30 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising publishing said action participation notification.

31 . The method of claim 29 , wherein said action participation notification is received while the organization member is participating in the initiative associated action.

32 . The method of claim 29 , wherein said action participation notification includes verification that the organization member participated in the initiative associated action.

33 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said publishing further comprises transmitting an email message to organization members.

34 . The method of claim 22 , wherein said publishing further comprises posting a notification message at an organization webpage.

35 . A computer implemented method for tracking participation efforts in organization supported initiatives comprising:

storing organization membership data and initiative data in a non-transitory memory;

receiving at a server connected to a network a participation notification indicating that an organization member has participated in an initiative associated action;

storing the participation notification in said memory; and

publishing with a controller, said participation notification,

wherein said action is an activity that supports a long-term goal of the organization.

36 . The method of claim 35 , further comprising receiving at the server a verification notification confirming that the organization member participated in the initiative associated action.

37 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions that when executed causes a processor to perform a method comprising:

upon receiving a request to create a new initiative and information sufficient to create a new initiative from an organization member, creating a new initiative; and

publishing the new initiative to members of the organization;

wherein organization membership information and initiative information is stored in a non-transitory memory accessible by the processor;

and wherein said new initiative is designed to encourage organization member participation in an activity that supports a long-term goal of the organization.

38 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions that when executed causes a processor to perform a method comprising:

upon receiving a receiving at the processor an action participation notification from an organization member, storing in memory a completion record for an initiative associated action; and

upon receiving a participation verification notification, publishing the action participation notification to members of the organization;

wherein organization membership information and initiative information is stored in a non-transitory memory accessible by the processor;
