Abstract

A motorized roller shade is provided. The motorized roller shade includes a shade tube in which a motor unit, a controller unit and a power supply unit are disposed. The controller unit includes a controller to control the motor. The power supply unit includes at least one bearing rotatably coupled to a support shaft. The motor unit includes at least one bearing, rotatably coupled to another support shaft, a DC gear motor and a counterbalancing device. The output shaft of the DC gear motor is coupled to the support shaft such that the output shaft and the support shaft do not rotate when the support shaft is attached to a mounting bracket.

Claims (100)

1. A motorized roller shade, comprising:

a first support shaft attachable to a first mounting bracket;

a second support shaft attachable to a second mounting bracket;

a shade tube, including:

an outer surface upon which a shade is attached, and

an inner surface defining an inner cavity;

a motor unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the first support shaft,

a DC gear motor having a housing and an output shaft coupled to the first support shaft such that the output shaft and the first support shaft do not rotate when the first support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket,

a rotating perch attached to the DC gear motor housing and the inner surface of the shade tube,

a fixed perch attached to the first support shaft, and

a spring engaged to the fixed perch and the rotating perch;

a controller unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including a controller, electrically coupled to the motor, to control the motor; and

a power supply unit, electrically coupled to the motor and controller units, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the second support shaft,

wherein the DC gear motor rotates with the shade tube when the DC gear motor is operating.

2. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein gaps formed between each edge of the shade and the vertical surface of the opening in which the motorized roller shade is installed are uniform and 7/16 of an inch or less in width.

3. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the motor unit includes an intermediate shaft disposed between the output shaft and the first support shaft.

4. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the controller unit includes a wireless receiver, coupled to the controller, to receive wireless signals.

5. The motorized roller shade according to claim 4 , wherein the shade tube includes at least one slot proximate to an antenna for the wireless receiver.

6. The motorized roller shade according to claim 4 , wherein the controller unit includes a wireless transmitter, coupled to the controller, to send wireless signals.

7. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the controller unit includes at least one circuit board upon which the controller is mounted.

8. The motorized roller shade according to claim 7 , wherein the controller unit includes a circuit board housing in which the circuit board is mounted.

The motorized roller shade according to claim 7 , wherein the motor unit includes a motor shaft extending from the DC gear motor and a multi-pole magnet attached to the motor shaft, and the controller unit includes at least one sensor, mounted to the circuit board, to detect the rotation of the multi-pole magnet.

10. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the power supply unit includes a battery tube, electrically coupled to the motor unit and the controller unit, for housing at least one battery.

11. The motorized roller shade according to claim 10 , wherein the power supply unit includes:

an outer end cap, mechanically coupled to the inner surface of the shade tube, in which the bearing coupled to the second support shaft is disposed, the outer end cap having a first terminal electrically coupled to the battery tube; and

an inner end cap, mechanically coupled to the inner surface of the shade tube, having a first terminal electrically coupled to the battery tube and a second terminal,

wherein, when the battery is installed in the battery tube, the first terminal of the outer end cap is electrically coupled to a first terminal of the battery, and the second terminal of the inner end cap is electrically coupled to a second terminal of the battery.

12. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the power supply unit includes a power coupling, electrically coupled to the motor unit and the controller unit, to receive power from an external power supply.

13. The motorized roller shade according to claim 12 , wherein the power coupling includes a commutator ring or a slip ring.

14. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the second support shaft does not rotate when attached to the mounting bracket.

15. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , further comprising a bottom bar.

16. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one end-of-travel stop.

17. The motorized roller shade according to claim 1 , wherein the second support shaft is longitudinally adjustable.

18. The motorized roller shade according to claim 4 , wherein the shade tube comprises an antenna for the wireless receiver.

19. A motorized roller shade, comprising:

a first support shaft attachable to a first mounting bracket;

a second support shaft attachable to a second mounting bracket;

a shade tube, including:

an outer surface upon which a shade is attached, and

an inner surface defining an inner cavity;

a motor unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the first support shaft,

a DC gear motor having a housing and an output shaft coupled to the first support shaft such that the output shaft and the first support shaft do not rotate when the first support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket,

a rotating perch attached to the DC gear motor housing and the inner surface of the shade tube,

a fixed perch attached to the first support shaft, and

a spring engaged to the fixed perch and the rotating perch;

a controller unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity and mechanically coupled to the shade tube inner surface, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the second support shaft, and

a controller, electrically coupled to the motor, to control the motor; and

a power supply unit, electrically coupled to the motor and controller units, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity,

wherein the DC gear motor rotates with the shade tube when the DC gear motor is operating.

20. A motorized roller shade, comprising:

a first support shaft attachable to a first mounting bracket;

a second support shaft attachable to a second mounting bracket;

a shade tube, including:

an outer surface upon which a shade is attached, and

an inner surface defining an inner cavity;

a motor unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the first support shaft,

a DC gear motor having a housing and an output shaft coupled to the first support shaft such that the output shaft and the first support shaft do not rotate when the first support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket;

a controller unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity and mechanically coupled to the shade tube inner surface, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the second support shaft,

at least one power spring coupled to the second support shaft and the inner surface of the shade tube, and

a controller, electrically coupled to the motor, to control the motor; and

a power supply unit, electrically coupled to the motor and controller units, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity,

wherein the DC gear motor rotates with the shade tube when the DC gear motor is operating.

21. A motorized roller shade, comprising:

a first support shaft attachable to a first mounting bracket;

a second support shaft attachable to a second mounting bracket;

a shade tube, including:

an outer surface upon which a shade is attached, and

an inner surface defining an inner cavity;

a controller unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the first support shaft,

a controller disposed within a housing,

a rotating perch attached to the housing and the inner surface of the shade tube,

a fixed perch attached to the first support shaft, and

a spring engaged to the fixed perch and the rotating perch;

a motor unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

a DC gear motor, electrically coupled to the controller, having an output shaft coupled to the first support shaft such that the output shaft and the first support shaft do not rotate when the first support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket, and

a power supply unit, electrically coupled to the motor and controller units, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the second support shaft,

wherein the DC gear motor rotates with the shade tube when the DC gear motor is operating.

22. A motorized roller shade, comprising:

a first support shaft attachable to a first mounting bracket;

a second support shaft attachable to a second mounting bracket;

a shade tube, including:

an outer surface upon which a shade is attached, and

an inner surface defining an inner cavity;

a motor unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the first support shaft,

a DC gear motor having a housing and an output shaft coupled to the first support shaft such that the output shaft and the first support shaft do not rotate when the first support shaft is attached to the mounting bracket;

a controller unit, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity and mechanically coupled to the shade tube inner surface, including:

a controller, electrically coupled to the motor, to control the motor; and

a power supply unit, electrically coupled to the motor and controller units, disposed within the shade tube inner cavity, including:

at least one bearing rotatably coupled to the second support shaft, and

at least one power spring coupled to the second support shaft and the inner surface of the shade tube,

wherein the DC gear motor rotates with the shade tube when the DC gear motor is operating.
