Abstract

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a central core element for a reverse osmosis separator assembly, the central core element comprising a pair of central core element components, each of said core element components comprising at least one porous exhaust conduit and at least one friction coupling, the friction couplings being configured to join said core element components to form a central core element defining a cavity configured to accommodate a first portion of a membrane stack assembly; wherein each core element component comprises a first section defining an exhaust cavity and a second section comprising a porous exhaust conduit, wherein said porous exhaust conduit comprises a removable wall member configured to form a substantial portion of a porous exhaust conduit wall.

Claims (29)

1. A central core element for a reverse osmosis separator assembly comprising:

a pair of central core element components, each of said central core element components comprising at least one porous exhaust conduit and at least one friction coupling, the friction couplings configured to join said central core element components to form the central core element defining a cavity configured to accommodate a first portion of a membrane stack assembly;

wherein each of the central core element components comprises a first section defining an exhaust cavity and a second section comprising the at least one porous exhaust conduit,

wherein each of the porous exhaust conduit comprises a removable wall member configured to form a substantial portion of a porous exhaust conduit wall.

2. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein the removable wall member is a rectangular wall section defining at least a portion of the cavity configured to accommodate the first portion of the membrane stack assembly.

3. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the porous exhaust conduits is a porous half-cylinder shaped tube.

4. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the porous exhaust conduits is selected from the group consisting of porous half-octagon shaped tubes, porous half-decahedron shaped tubes, and porous half-tetradecahedron shaped tubes.

5. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein all said porous exhaust conduits have identical shapes.

6. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein at least two of said porous exhaust conduits have different shapes.

7. The central core element according to claim 1 , comprising at least one of the porous exhaust conduits having a teardrop shape.

8. The central core element according to claim 1 comprising at least three porous exhaust conduits.

9. The central core element according to claim 1 comprising at least four porous exhaust conduits.

10. The central core element according to claim 8 comprising four porous exhaust conduits.

11. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said porous exhaust conduit comprises a blocking element.

12. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein the porous exhaust conduits comprise one or more grooves adapted to secure an o-ring.

13. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein the porous exhaust conduits define at least two cavities configured to accommodate a first portion of a membrane stack assembly.

14. The central core element according to claim 1 , wherein the central core element components are formed of a thermoplastic.

15. The central core element according to claim 14 , wherein the thermoplastic comprises a filler material.

16. A central core element for a reverse osmosis separator assembly comprising:

a pair of central core element components, each of said central core element components comprising a porous exhaust conduit and two friction couplings, the friction couplings configured to join said central core element components to form the central core element defining a cavity configured to accommodate a first portion of a membrane stack assembly;

wherein each of the central core element components comprises a first section defining an exhaust cavity and a second section comprising the porous exhaust conduit,

wherein each of the porous exhaust conduits comprises a removable wall member configured to form a substantial portion of a porous exhaust conduit wall.

17. The central core element according to claim 16 , wherein at least one of the friction couplings comprises a tongue and a groove friction coupling.
