Abstract

An ink-jet transfer system is disclosed, as well as a transfer printed product which is highly wash-resistant, colour-fast and environment-friendly, and a process for producing the same and its use in a printing process by means of the disclosed ink-jet transfer system. The disclosed ink-jet transfer system has a substrate, a hot-melt layer applied on the substrate and at least one ink-absorbing layer which comprises a mixture of a highly porous pigment and a binder. The molecules of the pigment and if required of the binder and hot-melt layer can form chemical bonds with the dyeing molecules of the ink.

An article for imparting an image to a dark-colored receiving member, comprising: a release-enhancing coating; and one or more layers overlaying the release-enhancing coating, the one or more layers comprising an ink receptive portion, a polymer, and a titanium oxide or other white or luminescent pigment wherein the concentration of the white or luminescent pigment is about 30%, about 35%, about 40% or about 50% by volume; wherein the ink receptive portion is effective for receiving indicia; and wherein the polymer includes a concentration and configuration of the titanium oxide or other white or luminescent pigment sufficient to provide a substantially opaque background for the received indicia, the polymer further including a softening point temperature within a range of about 40.degree. C. to about 220.degree. C.

. The article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer further includes a hot-melt adhesive and is disposed between the release-enhancing coating and the ink receptive portion.

. The article of claim 1 , wherein the ink receptive portion and the polymer, which includes the titanium oxide or other white or luminescent pigment, comprise a single layer.

. The article of claim 1 , wherein the ink receptive portion includes polypropylene, polyester, polyamide, or a mixture of polyester and polyamide.

. The article of claim 1 , wherein the polymer comprises LDPE, EAA, EVA, MAEA, nylon, polyamide, or mixtures of these polymers.

. The article of claim 1 , further comprising a base layer underlying the release-enhancing coating.

. The article of claim 6 , wherein the base layer is peelable away from the ink receptive portion, the polymer, and the titanium oxide or other white or luminescent pigment along a portion of the release-enhancing coating.

. A method comprising: forming or packaging a transfer article, comprising a substrate member including a substrate surface; a substantially opaque first layer overlaying the substrate surface, the opaque first layer including a white or luminescent pigment and having a softening point temperature less than about 220.degree. C. wherein the concentration of the white or luminescent pigment is about 30%, about 35%, about 40% or about 50% by volume; and a second layer overlaying the opaque first layer and configured to receive indicia printed using an ink jet printer, an ink pen, a color copier, or a laser printer, the second layer including a polymeric material; wherein the substrate member is hot and cold peelable away from the opaque first layer and the second layer; wherein the opaque first layer and the second layer are contactable to a dark-colored receiving member such that received indicia face upwards; wherein the substrate layer, when peeled, or a distinct overlay release paper is positionable over the second layer and the opaque first layer; and wherein heat is applicable to one of the substrate layer or the overlay release paper, the second layer, and the opaque first layer so that received indicia and a substantially opaque, white background for the received indicia, provided by the opaque first layer, are transferable to the dark-colored receiving member at substantially the same time.

. The method of claim 8 , comprising packaging the dark-colored receiving member, wherein the dark-colored receiving member is a dark colored fabric.

. The method of claim 8 , wherein one of the substrate layer or the overlay release paper is removable from the opaque first layer and the second layer after the application of heat.

. An article for transferring an image to a fabric material, comprising: a removable substrate member; a substantially opaque white layer overlaying a portion of the substrate member, the opaque white layer having a melt index within hand iron pressing temperatures and including a binder and a white or luminescent pigment wherein the concentration of the white or luminescent pigment is about 30%, about 35%, about 40% or about 50% by volume; and at least one ink-receptive layer overlaying the opaque white layer, the at least one ink-receptive layer including a binder and a polymeric material.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein the at least one ink-receptive layer includes a melting point temperature within a range of about 43.degree. C. to about 300.degree. C.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein the at least one ink-receptive layer comprises a color changeable material including at least one of a temperature sensitive pigment or a light sensitive colorant.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein the at least one ink-receptive layer includes a first ink-receptive layer and a second ink-receptive layer, at least one of the ink-receptive layers including a white or luminescent pigment.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein a surface of the substrate member contacted by the opaque white layer or a polymer layer including ethylene acrylic acid is coated with a release-enhancing layer.

. The article of claim 15 , wherein the release-enhancing layer includes silicone.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein the binder includes EAA or EVA.

. The article of claim 11 , wherein the opaque white layer includes ethylene acrylic acid, and a concentration of the white or luminescent pigment is sufficient to provide a substantially white background to received indicia.

. An article for imparting an image to a receiving member, comprising: a substrate member including a substrate surface; a substantially opaque first layer overlaying the substrate surface, the opaque first layer including a white or luminescent pigment and having a softening point temperature less than about 220.degree. C. wherein the concentration of the white or luminescent pigment is about 30%, about 35%, about 40% or about 50% by volume; and a second layer overlaying the opaque first layer and configured to receive indicia, the second layer including a polymeric material.
