Abstract

Computer-implemented method and system are provided for verifying a financial instrument. The method comprises performing a plurality of transactions using a source of electronically exchanged value identified by a user, recording details of the plurality of transactions, inviting the user to identify the details to a verification system, and verifying the source of electronically exchanged value based on the details provided by the user to the verification system.

Claims (34)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

performing, using at least one processor, a plurality of transactions using a source of electronically exchanged value identified by a user;

recording, using at least one processor, details of the plurality of transactions;

inviting the user, using at least one processor, to identify the details to a verification system; and

verifying, using at least one processor, the source of electronically exchanged value in response to determining that the user correctly identified the details to the verification system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source of the electronically exchanged value is a financial account or a financial instrument.

3. The method of claim 1 , Wherein the plurality of transactions include at least one of a debit, a credit, a deposit or a withdrawal.

4. The method of claim 1 , comprising providing the user with a limited number of additional opportunities to identify the details, based on determining that the user unsuccessfully identified the details to the verification system.

5. The method of claim 4 , comprising barring the user from using the source of the electronically exchanged value based on determining that the user unsuccessfully identified the details to the verification system with the limited number of additional opportunities.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising receiving the details from the user as input to the verification system.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of transactions are initiated by a merchant to which the user is to make a payment.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the details include at least one of type of a first transaction from the plurality of transactions and the number of transactions from the plurality of transactions.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source of electronically exchanged value is associated with at least one of a credit card account, a debit card account, and a checking account.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source of the electronically exchanged value is a financial instrument, the verifying comprising accepting use of the financial instrument by the user for a subsequent transaction.

11. A machine-readable non-transitory storage medium having instruction data to cause a machine to:

perform a plurality of transactions using a source of electronically exchanged value identified by a user;

record details of the plurality of transactions;

invite the user to identify the details to a verification system; and

verify the source of electronically exchanged value in response to determining that the user correctly identified the details to the verification system.

12. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the source of the electronically exchanged value is a financial account or a financial instrument.

13. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of transactions include at least one of a debit, a credit ,a depositor a withdrawal.

14. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 to cause a machine to provide the user with a limited number of additional opportunities to identify the details, based on determining that the user unsuccessfully identified the details to the verification system.

15. The machine-readable medium of claim 14 to cause a machine to bar the user from using the source of the electronically exchanged value based on determining that the user unsuccessfully identified the details to the verification system with the limited number of additional opportunities.

16. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 to cause a machine to receive the details from the user as input to the verification system.

17. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the performance of the plurality of transactions is initiated by a merchant to which, the user is to make a payment.

18. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the details include at least one of a type of a first transaction from the plurality of transactions and the number of transactions from the plurality of transactions.

19. The machine-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the source of electronically exchanged value is associated with at least one of a credit card account, a debit card account, and a checking account.

20. A system comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor coupled to the memory, the at least one processor implementing a system to:

perform a plurality of transactions using a source of electronically exchanged value identified by a user;

record details of the plurality of transactions;

invite the user to identify the details to a verification system; and

verify the source of electronically exchanged value in response to determining that the user correctly identified the details to the verification system.
