Abstract

Improved lancet configurations and protective lancet endcap configurations are disclosed. In example forms, one or more flexing cantilevers project from the lancet body for coupling with a cooperating receiver of a lancing device. A gripping handle extends from a sterility cap for ease of removal from and replacement over the lancet tip. A lancet body has a smoothly curved wave contour with at least one crest and at least one trough for engagement with a cooperating receiver of a lancing device.

Claims (21)

1. A disposable lancet for use with a reusable lancing device, the lancet comprising a lancet body having a coupling portion for removable engagement with a lancet receiver of the lancing device, the lancet further comprising a sharp lancing tip projecting from an end of the lancet body, said coupling portion of the lancet body comprising opposed first and second sides each defining a smoothly curved wave contour with a trough and a crest for detachable coupling and positive engagement of at least one of the trough and crest in releasable connection with cooperating portions of the lancet receiver of the lancing device.

2. The lancet of claim 1 , further comprising an expanded disc or flange at an end of the lancet body.

3. The lancet of claim 2 , wherein the lancet body is flattened, having a width and a thickness, and wherein the width is substantially greater than the thickness.

4. The lancet of claim 3 , wherein an aspect ratio of the width relative to the thickness is at least 3:2.

5. The lancet of claim 2 , wherein the lancet body defines a first narrower dimension proximal a rear end of the lancet, a wider dimension at a medial portion of the lancet, and a second narrower dimension proximal a forward end of the lancet.

6. The lancet of claim 5 , wherein the wider dimension is at least about 1.1 times the lesser of the first and second narrower dimensions.

7. A disposable lancet for use in connection with a reusable lancing device, said lancet comprising:

a lancet body having a coupling portion for removable engagement with a lancet receiver of the lancing device, the coupling portion of the lancet body comprising opposed first and second sides, each side defining a smoothly curved wave contour with a trough portion and a crest portion, the lancet body having a narrower dimension between the trough portions of the first and second sides and a wider dimension between the crest portions of the first and second sides; and

a sharp lancing tip projecting from an end of the lancet body;

wherein at least one of the trough and crest of the coupling portion releasable connects to a cooperating portion of the lancet receiver of the lancing device for use, and is removable from the lancet receiver for disposal after use.

8. The lancet of claim 7 , further comprising an expanded disc or flange at an end of the lancet body.

9. The lancet of claim 7 , wherein the lancet body is flattened, having a width and a thickness, and wherein the width is substantially greater than the thickness.

10. The lancet of claim 9 , wherein an aspect ratio of the width relative to the thickness is at least 3:2.

11. The lancet of claim 7 , wherein the narrower dimension is proximal a rear end of the lancet, and the wider dimension is at a medial portion of the lancet.

12. The lancet of claim 11 , further comprising a second narrower dimension proximal a forward end of the lancet.

13. The lancet of claim 7 , wherein the wider dimension is at least about 1.1 times the narrower dimension.

14. A lancet comprising a lancet body with a sharp lancing tip projecting from a forward end thereof, said lancet body being configured for removable engagement with a lancet receiver of a lancing device and comprising opposed first and second sides each defining a smoothly curved wave contour, the lancet body having a first narrower portion proximal a rear end thereof, a wider portion forward of the rear end of the lancet body, and a second narrower portion between the wider portion and the forward end of the lancet body.

15. The lancet of claim 14 , further comprising an expanded disc or flange at the forward end of the lancet body.

16. The lancet of claim 14 , wherein the lancet body is flattened, having a width and a thickness, and wherein the width is substantially greater than the thickness.

17. The lancet of claim 16 , wherein an aspect ratio of the width relative to the thickness is at least 3:2.

18. The lancet of claim 14 , wherein the wider portion is at least about 1.1 times wider than the first and second narrower portions.
