Patient-adapted and improved articular implants, designs and related guide tools
View Patent ↗Methods and devices are disclosed relating improved articular models, implant components, and related guide tools and procedures. In addition, methods and devices are disclosed relating articular models, implant components, and/or related guide tools and procedures that include one or more features derived from patient-data, for example, images of the patient's joint. The data can be used to create a model for analyzing a patient's joint and to devise and evaluate a course of corrective action. The data also can be used to create patient-adapted implant components and related tools and procedures.
1. A method for designing a patient-specific implant for repairing or replacing a joint of a patient, comprising:
preoperatively obtaining patient-specific image data of the joint of the patient and designing a patient-specific implant using the patient-specific image data;
simulating, in a computer system, biomotion of the joint of the patient with the patient-specific image data and/or other patient-specific data;
deriving a patient-specific biomotion model; and
optimizing the patient-specific implant using the patient-specific biomotion model.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the other patient-specific data is image data.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the other patient-specific data is kinematic data.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the other patient-specific data is navigation data.
5. A method for selecting a patient-specific implant for repairing or replacing a joint of a patient, comprising:
preoperatively obtaining patient-specific image data of the joint of the patient and selecting a pre-existing implant based on the patient-specific image data;
simulating, in a computer system, biomotion of the joint of the patient with the patient-specific image data and/or other patient-specific data;
deriving a patient-specific biomotion model; and
optimizing by further shaping the selected implant using the patient-specific biomotion model.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the other patient-specific data is image data.
7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the other patient-specific data is kinematic data.
8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the other patient-specific data is navigation data.
