Abstract

An azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of chlorotrifluoropropene and at least one component selected from the group consisting of a C 1 -C 3 alcohol, a C 5 -C 6 hydrocarbon, a halogenated hydrocarbon, methylal, methyl acetone, water, nitromethane, and combinations thereof.

Claims (15)

1. A binary azeotrope-like mixture consisting essentially of from about 91.6 to about 99.9 weight percent of trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and from about 0.1 to about 8.4 weight percent of 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane.

2. The binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 92.5 to about 99.9 weight percent trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 7.5 weight percent 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane.

3. The binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 wherein said azeotrope-like mixture consists essentially of about 95 to about 99.9 weight percent trans-1-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene and about 0.1 to about 5 weight percent 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane.

4. The binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 having a boiling point of 17.5° C.±1.0° C. at ambient pressure.

5. The binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 having a boiling point of between 17.6° C.-18.2° C. at ambient pressure.

6. A blowing agent consisting essentially of the binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 .

7. A blowing agent consisting essentially of at least about 5% by weight of the binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 .

8. A foamable composition comprising one or more components capable of forming foam and the blowing agent of claim 6 .

9. The foamable composition of claim 8 further comprising one or more additives selected from the group consisting of nucleating agents, flame retardants, colorants, processing aids, cross linking gents, and permeability modifiers.

10. A foam formed from the foamable composition of claim 8 .

11. The foam of claim 10 comprising a thermoplastic foam.

12. The foam of claim 10 comprising a thermoset foam.

13. A closed cell foam comprising the foam of claim 10 .

14. A blowing agent consisting essentially of at least about 15% by weight of the binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 .

15. A blowing agent consisting essentially of at least about 50% by weight of the binary azeotrope-like mixture of claim 1 .
