METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING INFORMATION FROM A CARD READER TO A MOBILE DEVICE WITH THE CARD READER HAVING READ HEAD OFFSET FROM A CENTER OF AN ASSOCIATED HOUSING
A method of transmitting information to a mobile device uses a card reader inside of a housing. The read head is positioned offset from a center of a magnetic strip when the card is in the slot and is in contact with a bottom of the slot. A card is slid in the slot. Data is read from the magnetic stripe. A raw magnetic signal is produced indicative of data stored on the magnetic stripe. The raw magnetic head signal is converted into a processed digital signal that the microcontroller can interpret. An output jack signal is sent to the mobile device
1 . A method of transmitting information to a mobile device, comprising:
providing a card reader that includes a read head with a slot, a microcontroller and an output jack;
positioning the read head offset from a center of the magnetic strip when the card is in the slot and is in contact with a bottom of the slot
sliding a card in the slot;
reading data from the magnetic stripe;
producing a raw magnetic signal indicative of data stored on the magnetic stripe;
converting the raw magnetic head signal into a processed digital signal that the microcontroller can interpret; and
sending an output jack signal to the mobile device.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head from track 1 of the card when the card is positioned in the slot and is in contact with a bottom of the slot.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head offset from track 1 to bias the slot to a bottom of track 1 .
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head to provide the user with greater card rotation relative to a bottom of the slot as the distance the card needs to travel to get off the track increases.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
positioning the card in the slot with the read heading being non-parallel to a bottom surface of the slot.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head to provide a higher success rate of swipes achieved with rotation of the card in the slot.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
positioning the read head to be substantially perpendicular to the magnetic strip of the card when the card is read by the read head.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing read head adjustment.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
angling the read head to create an angled read head.
10 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
angling the read head to be substantially parallel with a card as it is swiped through the slot.
11 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
swiping the card through the slot in a from left to right when viewed from a front side of card reader with the audio jack pointing in a downward direction.
12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head to allow the card to be rotated at a greater angle while still keeping the read heads active area on the magnetic track of the credit card.
13 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising: wherein
offsetting of the read head increases successful card readings when the card is rotated about a corner of a bottom of the slot with a card magnetic track being lifted above an active read head area.
14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
offsetting the read head up with respect to a center line of the magnetic track.
15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
rotating the card further off a bottom of the slot before a read head active area is no longer on the magnetic track of the card.
