Abstract

There is provided a sensor network information collection mechanism in which, after a UE has decided to become part of an information collecting operation for collecting information from a local sensor network, a signaling transmitted from a managing node of a local sensor network is received and processed. A communication network control element is informed about the willingness to become an information collector by sending a report message comprising measurement results derived from the signaling received from the managing node of the local sensor network. When receiving a gateway allocation message indicating that the UE is determined to be a gateway element to the local sensor network, the information collecting operation is started wherein sensor nodes of the local sensor network are woke up, and a traffic flow direction in the local sensor network is set in accordance with the managing node identity to which the UE is accessed.

Claims (57)

1. A user equipment of a cellular communication network comprising:

a processor configured to decide on whether an information collecting operation for collecting information from a local sensor network is executed,

a first receiver configured to receive a signaling transmitted from a managing node of a local sensor network, and

a transmitter configured to transmit to a communication network control element, comprising a base station or a Node B of the cellular communication network, a report message comprising measurement results derived from the signaling received from the managing node of the local sensor network,

wherein the processor is configured to initiate, when starting the information collecting operation, an awakening processing of sensor nodes of the local sensor network, wherein the awakening processing comprises at least one of sending a trigger signal to the managing node of the local sensor network for instructing the managing node to conduct an awakening procedure for the sensor nodes, or sending an awakening signal directly to sensor nodes of the local sensor network.

2. The user equipment according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a second receiver configured to receive, in response to the report message, a gateway allocation message indicating that a communication network element including the user equipment is determined to be a gateway element to the local sensor network,

wherein the processor is further configured to start the information collecting operation upon receiving the gateway allocation message.

The user equipment according to claim 2 , wherein the processor is further configured to transmit, when starting the information collecting operation, topology information towards the sensor nodes of the local sensor network, the topology information comprising information identifying an access point of the local sensor network to which the communication network element has access, wherein the transmission is performed by at least one of broadcasting the topology information to sensor nodes of the local sensor network, or by sending the topology information to the managing node of the local sensor network with an instruction to forward the topology information to the sensor nodes of the local sensor network.

The user equipment according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to start deciding on whether the information collecting operation for collecting information from the local sensor network is to be executed after receiving a request from the communication network control element or another communication network element to collect information from a local sensor network, wherein the request comprises information identifying the local sensor network from which information is to be collected.

5. The user equipment according to claim 1 , wherein

the user equipment is included in a communication network element, wherein the communication network element is configured to access at least one node of the local sensor network and to function as a gateway element between the communication network control element and the local sensor network, and

the communication network control element is an access network control element, wherein the communication network control element is configured to function as a sink for the local sensor network.

6. The user equipment according to claim 1 , wherein

the local sensor network is a wireless sensor network, and the managing node of the local sensor network is a cluster head node of the wireless sensor network, wherein the signaling is a beacon signal transmitted by the cluster head node.

7. A base station of a cellular communication network comprising:

a receiver configured to receive from a communication network element an accessing request for requesting allocation as a gateway element for collecting information from a local sensor network, the accessing request comprising a report of measurement results regarding a signaling received by the communication network element from a managing node of the local sensor network,

a processor configured to determine whether the communication network element is to be selected as a gateway element, and

a transmitter configured to send, in response to the accessing request, a gateway allocation message informing that the communication network element is determined to be a gateway element to the local sensor network,

wherein the base station is configured to function as a sink for the local sensor network, and

the communication network element is a user equipment of the cellular communication network, wherein the communication network element is configured to access at least one node of the local sensor network and to function as a gateway element between the base station and the local sensor network.

8. The base station according to claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to determine whether the communication network element is to be selected as a gateway element on the basis of the measurement results received in the report comprised in the accessing request.

The base station according to claim 7 , further comprising a second transmitter configured to send a information collection request to communication network elements to collect information from a local sensor network, wherein the request comprises information identifying the local sensor network from which information is to be collected, wherein the accessing request is received in response to the information collection request.

10. The base station according to claim 7 , wherein

the local sensor network is a wireless sensor network, and the managing node of the local sensor network is a cluster head node of the wireless sensor network.

11. A method comprising:

deciding by a user equipment of a cellular communication network, whether an information collecting operation for collecting information from a local sensor network is executed,

receiving a signaling transmitted from a managing node of a local sensor network,

transmitting to a communication network control element, comprising a base station or a Node B of the cellular communication network, a report message comprising measurement results derived from the signaling received from the managing node of the local sensor network, and

initiating, when starting the information collecting operation, an awakening processing of sensor nodes of the local sensor network,

wherein the awakening processing comprises at least one of sending a trigger signal to the managing node of the local sensor network for instructing the managing node to conduct an awakening procedure for the sensor nodes, or sending an awakening signal directly to sensor nodes of the local sensor network.

12. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising:

receiving, in response to the report message, a gateway allocation message indicating that the user equipment is determined to be a gateway element to the local sensor network, and

starting the information collecting operation upon receiving the gateway allocation message.

13. The method according to claim 12 , further comprising:

transmitting, when starting the information collecting operation, topology information towards the sensor nodes of the local sensor network, the topology information comprising information identifying an access point of the local sensor network to which the user equipment has access,

wherein the transmission is performed by at least one of broadcasting the topology information to sensor nodes of the local sensor network, or by sending the topology information to the managing node of the local sensor network with an instruction to forward the topology information to the sensor nodes of the local sensor network.

14. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising:

receiving a request from the communication network control element or another communication network element to collect information from a local sensor network, wherein the request comprises information identifying the local sensor network from which information is to be collected,

wherein the decision on whether the information collecting operation for collecting information from the local sensor network is executed after receiving the request.

15. The method according to claim 11 , wherein wherein the user equipment is configured to access at least one node of the local sensor network and to function as a gateway element between the communication network control element and the local sensor network, and

the communication network control element is an access network control element, comprising a base station or an evolved Node B of a cellular communication network, wherein the communication network control element is configured to function as a sink for the local sensor network.

16. The method according to claim 11 , wherein

the local sensor network is a wireless sensor network, and the managing node of the local sensor network is a cluster head node of the wireless sensor network, wherein the signaling is a beacon signal transmitted by the cluster head node.

17. A method comprising:

receiving from a communication network element an accessing request for requesting allocation as a gateway element for collecting information from a local sensor network, the accessing request comprising a report of measurement results regarding a signaling received by the communication network element from a managing node of the local sensor network,

determining whether the communication network element is to be selected as a gateway element, and

sending, in response to the accessing request, a gateway allocation message informing that the communication network element is determined to be a gateway element to the local sensor network,

wherein the method is conducted in a communication network control element or an access network control element of a cellular communication network, comprising a base station or an evolved Node B, wherein the communication network control element is configured to function as a sink for the local sensor network, and

the communication network element is a user equipment of the cellular communication network, wherein the communication network element is configured to access at least one node of the local sensor network and to function as a gateway element between the communication network control element and the local sensor network.

18. The method according to claim 17 , wherein the determining whether the communication network element is to be selected as a gateway element is based on the measurement results received in the report comprised in the accessing request.

The method according to claim 17 , further comprising sending a information collection request to communication network elements to collect information from a local sensor network, wherein the request comprises information identifying the local sensor network from which information is to be collected, wherein the accessing request is received in response to the information collection request.

20. The method according to claim 17 , wherein

the local sensor network is a wireless sensor network, and the managing node of the local sensor network is a cluster head node of the wireless sensor network.

21. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium embodied with computer executable code for performing the method of claim 11 .

22. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium according to claim 21 ,

wherein said computer executable code is directly loadable into the internal memory of the computer by means of at least one of upload, download and push procedures.
