PATIENT VERIFICATION FOR BOOKING OF HEALTHCARE APPOINTMENTS ACROSS PRACTICE GROUPS
Systems and methods for aggregating available healthcare appointment times across multiple unaffiliated practitioner groups, including search and display algorithms. A centralized marketplace is provided for real time booking of healthcare appointments which does not require the patient to have a preexisting relationship with the practitioner. The aggregated booking system enhances the number of available near term and conveniently located appointment options while the search and display algorithms reduce the complexity of the patient and practitioner information required to maintain accurate and synchronized database booking records.
1 . A method of screening online requests for healthcare appointments comprising:
offering a plurality of available appointments from a plurality of healthcare practice groups for online booking from a website:
receiving a request from a patient via the website for an appointment;
prior to approving the requested appointment, requiring the patient to open an account which includes providing a phone number associated with the patient for contacting the patient;
comparing the provided phone number to a collection of previously opened patient accounts each having a unique phone number;
if the provided phone number is not previously associated with another patient account, opening a new account for the requesting patient with the provided phone number.
2 . The method of claim 1 , including:
contacting the patient via the provided phone number prior to opening the new account.
3 . The method of claim 1 , including:
sending the patient a code via a message or phone call to the provided phone number; and
requiring the patient to enter the code on the website before the patient is authorized to book an appointment.
4 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:
providing the phone number to a practice group with which the patient books an appointment.
5 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:
sending the patient reminders via a message or phone call to the provided phone number.
6 . The method of claim 1 , comprising:
determining from an IP address from which a patient initiated a request for an appointment via the website, an associated geographic patient location; and
if a patient requests an appointment at a practitioner location more than a threshold distance from the patient geographic location, contacting the patient via a message or a phone call to the provided phone number to verify the basis for the requested appointment
7 . A method of screening online requests for healthcare appointments comprising:
offering a plurality of available appointments from a plurality of healthcare practice groups for online booking from a website;
receiving a request from a patient via the website for an appointment;
prior to approving the requested appointment, performing a location verification comprising determining, from an IP address at which the patient sent the request, a patient geographic location; and
comparing the distance between the patient geographic location and a geographic location of the practitioner associated with the requested appointment.
8 . The method of claim 7 , including:
if the distance meets a threshold, contacting the patient to confirm the requested appointment.
9 . The method of claim 7 , including:
identifying a plurality of requests which meet a threshold distance, and contacting at least a subset of the patients with such requests to confirm the requested appointments.
10 . The method of claim 8 , comprising:
sending the patient an email message requesting verification of the requested appointment.
11 . The method of claim 7 , comprising:
investigating the patient's prior history for requesting and/or completing appointments.
