Method and apparatus for managing shared data at a portable electronic device of a first entity
View Patent ↗A method and apparatus for managing shared data at a portable electronic device of a first entity is provided. A message is received advising that data associated with a second entity is being shared. A request is transmitted to a server for a list of shared folders associated with the second entity, in response to an option to view shared folders associated with the second entity being selected. The list is received. An initialize command is transmitted to the server, the initialize command identifying at least one folder in the list. The data associated with the second entity is received, responsive to the transmitting the initialize command. The data is stored in association with a second entity identifier.
1. A method comprising:
receiving, at a portable electronic device, an indication that data associated with an identifier is being shared;
receiving, from a server, a list of shared folders associated with the identifier responsive to an option to view shared folders associated with the identifier being selected;
receiving the data associated with the identifier, responsive to transmitting to the server an initialize command identifying at least one folder in the list; and
storing the data in association with the identifier.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the data is stored in a folder identified with the identifier.
3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising: displaying options for viewing one of the data stored in association with the identifier and other data stored in association with another identifier.
4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein storing the data comprises storing the data with read-only access, thereby allowing only viewing of the data.
5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein storing the data comprises storing the data with read and write access, thereby allowing modification of the data.
6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the portable electronic device is associated with a first entity and the data is associated with a second entity.
7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein the identifier comprises a second entity identifier.
8. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising transmitting a request to the server for the list in response to selection of the option to view shared folders.
9. A portable electronic device comprising:
a receiver enabled to:
receive an indication that data associated with an identifier is being shared;
receive a list of shared folders associated with the identifier responsive to an option to view shared folders associated with the identifier being selected; and
receive the data associated with the identifier, responsive to transmitting an initialize command identifying at least one folder in the list;
a memory device enabled to store the data; and
a processor connected to the memory device, the processor enabled to store the data in association with the identifier.
10. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the data is stored in a folder identified with the identifier.
11. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , further comprising a display device enabled to display the option for viewing one of the data saved in association with the identifier and other data saved in association with another identifier.
12. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the memory device stores the data with read-only access, thereby allowing only viewing of the data.
13. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the memory device stores the data with read and write access, thereby allowing modification of the data.
14. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the option to view the shared folders associated with the identifier is provided with contact details of an entity associated with the identifier.
15. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the portable electronic device is associated with a first entity and the data is associated with a second entity.
16. The portable electronic device according to claim 15 , wherein the identifier comprises a second entity identifier.
17. The portable electronic device according to claim 9 , wherein the receiver is further enabled to transmit a request for the list in response to selection of the option to view shared folders.
18. A computer program product, comprising a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code adapted to be executed to implement a method comprising:
receiving, at a portable electronic device, an indication that data associated with an identifier is being shared;
receiving, from a server, a list of shared folders associated with the identifier responsive to an option to view shared folders associated with the identifier being selected;
receiving the data associated with the identifier, responsive to transmitting to the server an initialize command identifying at least one folder in the list; and
storing the data in association with the identifier.
