Abstract

A paintball loader for use on a paintball gun for feeding paintballs is provided. The paintball loader includes a container for holding a plurality of paintballs, a paintball agitator rotatably mounted in the container, the paintball agitator including at least two fins extending substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation, the fins spaced apart from each other forming a gap therebetween large enough to accommodate more than one paintball. At least two paintballs are positioned in the gap between the fins. A motor is configured to rotate the paintball agitator. The container includes an exit tube exiting from the bottom portion of the container and leading to an inlet tube of the paintball gun. A microprocessor in communication with a sensor may also be provided for controlling the motor. A deflector for deflecting paintballs may also be provided, the deflector movably attached to the interior surface of the container.

Claims (34)

1. A paintball loader for loading paintballs and for use on a paintball gun comprising:

a container for holding a plurality of paintballs having an interior;

a paintball agitator rotatably mounted in the container, the paintball agitator having a raised central portion with at least one surface sloping downwardly and outwardly from the central portion, the paintball agitator configured to rotate about an axis;

the paintball agitator comprising at least two fins extending outwardly from the paintball agitator, the fins spaced apart from each other forming a gap therebetween large enough to accommodate more than one paintball;

at least two paintballs positioned in the gap between the fins;

a motor configured to rotate the paintball agitator;

an exit tube in communication with the interior of the container;

a microprocessor for controlling operation of the motor; and

a sensor in communication with the microprocessor.

2. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is an electro-mechanical sensor.

3. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , wherein the exit tube includes a sloped exit portion.

4. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , wherein the paintball agitator includes a conically-shaped interior area.

5. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 4 , wherein the paintball agitator includes a generally vertical circumferential wall and wherein the fins extend from the generally vertical circumferential wall.

6. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the fins moves a paintball located within the interior toward the exit tube.

7. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , further comprising an extension positioned adjacent an opening of the exit tube configured to contact a paintball and to assist the paintball agitator in driving the paintball into the exit tube.

8. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is configured to detect torque on the motor, and wherein the microprocessor controls the motor in response to the detection of torque.

9. A paintball gun and paintball loader for loading paintballs comprising:

a paintball gun comprising an inlet tube configured to receive paintballs from a paintball loader; and

a paintball loader comprising:

a container for holding a plurality of paintballs having an interior;

a paintball agitator rotatably mounted in the container, the paintball agitator having a raised central portion with at least one surface sloping downwardly and outwardly from the central portion, the paintball agitator configured to rotate about an axis;

the paintball agitator comprising at least two fins extending outwardly from the paintball agitator, the fins spaced apart from each other forming a gap therebetween large enough to accommodate more than one paintball;

at least two paintballs positioned in the gap between the fins;

a motor configured to rotate the paintball agitator;

an exit tube in communication with the interior of the container and configured to lead to the inlet tube of the paintball gun;

a microprocessor for controlling operation of the motor; and

a sensor in communication with the microprocessor.

10. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , wherein the sensor is an electro-mechanical sensor.

11. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , wherein the exit tube includes a sloped exit portion.

12. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , wherein the paintball agitator includes a conically-shaped interior area.

13. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 12 , wherein the paintball agitator includes a generally vertical circumferential wall and wherein the fins extend from the generally vertical circumferential wall.

14. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the fins moves a paintball located within the interior toward the exit tube.

15. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , further comprising an extension positioned adjacent an opening of the exit tube configured to contact a paintball and to assist the paintball agitator in driving the paintball into the exit tube.

16. The rapid feed paintball loader of claim 9 , wherein the sensor is configured to detect torque on the motor, and wherein the microprocessor controls the motor in response to the detection of torque.
