1. An asphalt comprising
a first component comprising a petroleum asphalt; and,
a second component comprising particles formed from a melted mixture of a polyolefin resin and a binder;
wherein, the second component is dispersed within the first component;
wherein the polyolefin resin is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene homopolymer resin; and
wherein the binder is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene by-product waxes, petroleum micro waxes, Fischer-Tropsch hard wax, gilsonite, a terpolymer, and montan waxes.
2. The asphalt of claim 1 , wherein the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
3. The asphalt of claim 2 , wherein the binder component comprises a melting point in the range of 150° F. (66° C.) to 220° F. (104° C.).
4. The asphalt of claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin comprises a melting point range from 115° C. to 250° C.
5. The asphalt of claim 1 , wherein the polyolefin comprises polypropylene homo-polymer resins, and the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or a petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
6. A method of treating a petroleum asphalt, the method comprising,
contacting a petroleum asphalt with particles formed from a melted mixture of a polyolefin resin component and a binder component to form a treated asphalt,
wherein the polyolefin resin is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene homopolymer resin; and,
wherein the binder is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene by-product waxes, petroleum micro waxes, Fischer-Tropsch hard wax, gilsonite, a terpolymer, and montan waxes.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene wax or a petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
8. The asphalt of claim 6 , wherein the polyolefin component comprises a melting point range from 115° C. to 250° C.
9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the polyolefin component comprises polypropylene homo-polymer resins, and the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene wax or a petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the binder component comprises a melting point in the range of 150° F. (66° C.) to 220° F. (104° C.).
11. An asphalt comprising
a first component comprising a petroleum asphalt;
a second component dispersed in the asphalt comprising particles formed from a melted mixture of a polyolefin resin and a binder; and,
a third component dispersed in the asphalt selected from the group consisting of ground tire rubber and polymers of styrene and butadiene,
wherein the polyolefin resin is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene homopolymer resin; and,
wherein the binder is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene by-product waxes, petroleum micro waxes, Fischer-Tropsch hard wax, gilsonite, a terpolymer, and montan waxes.
12. The asphalt of claim 11 , wherein the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes, and the third component is ground tire rubber.
13. The asphalt of claim 11 , wherein the polyolefin comprises a melting point range from 115° C. to 250° C.
14. The asphalt of claim 11 , wherein the polyolefin comprises polypropylene homo-polymer resins, and the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or a petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
15. The asphalt of claim 14 , wherein the binder component comprises a melting point in the range of 150° F. (66° C.) to 220° F. (104° C.).
16. The asphalt product of claim 11 , wherein the third component is ground tire rubber.
17. A method of modifying a petroleum asphalt, the method comprising:
combining the petroleum asphalt with a first component and a second component, wherein the first component comprises particles formed from a melted mixture of a polyolefin resin and a binder; and, the second component is selected from the group consisting of ground tire rubber and polymers of styrene and butadiene,
wherein the polyolefin resin is selected from the group consisting of polypropylene homopolymer resin; and,
wherein the binder is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene by-product waxes, petroleum micro waxes, Fischer-Tropsch hard wax, gilsonite, a terpolymer, and montan waxes.
18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the polyolefin comprises a melting point range from 115° C. to 250° C.
20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the polyolefin comprises polypropylene homo-polymer resins, and the binder component comprises at least one of a polyethylene by product wax or a petroleum micro-wax derived from crude oil refining processes.
21. The method of claim 17 , wherein the binder component comprises a melting point in the range of 150° F. (66° C.) to 220° F. (104° C.).
22. The method of claim 17 , wherein the second component is ground tire rubber.
