Abstract

A method of selecting a semaphorin for treating cancer in a subject is disclosed. The method comprises determining an expression of a semaphorin receptor on tumor cells of a tumor sample of the subject wherein an amount of the semaphorin receptor is indicative of the semaphorin suitable for treating the cancer in the subject. Methods of treating angiogenesis, kits for treating cancer and pharmaceutical compositions comprising semaphorins are also disclosed.

Claims (6)

1. A method of treating cancer in a subject in need thereof, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount Semaphorin3D (Sema3D), having an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to the sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 29 or 36, thereby treating cancer.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said semaphorin3D is a pro-protein convertase resistant semaphorin3D.

3. The method claim 1 , wherein said semaphorin comprises the amino acid sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 29 or 36.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said cancer is selected from the group consisting of breast cancer, pancreatic cancer and lung cancer.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is associated with tumor metastasis.

6. A method of inhibiting tumor angiogenesis in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of Sema3D having an amino acid sequence at least 95% identical to the sequence as set forth in SEQ ID NO: 29 or 36, thereby inhibiting tumor angiogenesis.
