Abstract

An indicating device for indicating the number of dosages of medicament dispensed from a container includes a housing, a single indicator member nested the housing, an actuator and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism is periodically engageable with the single indicator member. The drive mechanism is operable to advance the single indicator member an incremental amount when the drive mechanism is engaged with the single indicator member. The single indicator member remains stationary and is free of engagement from the drive mechanism for at least some reciprocal movements of the actuator. A dispensing device and a dispensing system are also provided.

a dispenser housing comprising a support block having a well, said support block defining a longitudinal axis; and

an indicating device comprising:

a housing comprising a first annular wall radially spaced around said longitudinal axis and defining an interior cavity, said first annular wall having a viewing window formed therein;

a single indicator member rotatably mounted in said housing about said longitudinal axis, said single indicator member comprising a second annular wall radially spaced around said longitudinal axis wherein said single indicator member is nested in said interior cavity of said housing, said second annular wall having an outer circumferential surface visible through said viewing window and comprising dosage indicia adapted to indicate the number of dosages of medicament dispensed from or remaining in the container;

an actuator reciprocally moveable relative to said housing along said longitudinal axis; and

a drive mechanism intermittently engageable with said single indicator member, wherein said drive mechanism is operable to advance said single indicator member an incremental amount when said drive mechanism is engaged with said single indicator member, and wherein said single indicator member remains stationary and is free of engagement from said drive mechanism for at least some of said reciprocal movements of said actuator.

2. The dispensing device of claim 1 wherein said drive mechanism comprises a reduction member comprising a gear portion rotatable upon each reciprocal movement of said actuator, and a drive portion, wherein said drive portion is operable to rotate said single indicator member upon a predetermined number of reciprocal movements of said actuator.

3. The dispensing device of claim 2 wherein said actuator comprises a pawl member.

4. The dispensing device of claim 2 wherein said gear portion comprises a first plurality of teeth, and said drive portion comprises a second plurality of teeth, wherein said second plurality is less than said first plurality.

5. The dispensing device of claim 1 wherein said housing comprises a cap member, and further comprising a base member coupled to said cap member.

6. The dispensing device of claim 5 wherein said base member is moveable along said longitudinal axis relative to said cap member, and wherein said base member comprises said actuator.

7. The dispensing device of claim 5 wherein said cap member is coupled to said base member with a snap fit.

8. The dispensing device of claim 1 wherein one of said housing and said single indicator member comprises a plurality of indexing receptacles and the other of said housing and said single indicator member comprises an indexing member selectively engaged with one of said indexing receptacles.

9. A system device for dispensing a medicament from a container, the system comprising:

a dispenser housing comprising a support block having a well, said support block defining a longitudinal axis;

a container disposed in said dispenser housing and comprising a valve stem received in said well of said support block, wherein said container is reciprocally moveable along said longitudinal axis relative to said dispenser housing;

an indicating device disposed adjacent an end of said container, said indicator device comprising:

a housing comprising a first annular wall radially spaced around said longitudinal axis and defining an interior cavity, said first annular wall having a viewing window formed therein;

a single indicator member rotatably mounted in said housing about said longitudinal axis, said single indicator member comprising a second annular wall radially spaced around said longitudinal axis wherein said indicator is nested in said interior cavity of said housing, said second annular wall having an outer circumferential surface visible through said viewing window and comprising dosage indicia adapted to indicate the number of dosages of medicament dispensed from or remaining in the container;

an actuator reciprocally moveable relative to said housing along said longitudinal axis in response to said reciprocal movements of said container relative to said dispenser housing; and

a drive mechanism intermittently engageable with said single indicator member, wherein said drive mechanism is operable to advance said single indicator member an incremental amount when said drive mechanism is engaged with said single indicator member, and wherein said single indicator member remains stationary and is free of engagement from said drive mechanism for at least some of said reciprocal movements of said actuator.

10. The dispensing system of claim 9 wherein said drive mechanism comprises a reduction member comprising a gear portion rotatable upon each reciprocal movement of said actuator, and a drive portion, wherein said drive portion is operable to rotate said indicator member upon said predetermined number of reciprocal movements of said actuator.

11. The dispensing system of claim 10 wherein said actuator comprises a pawl member.

12. The dispensing system of claim 10 wherein said gear portion comprises a first plurality of teeth, and said drive portion comprises a second plurality of teeth, wherein said second plurality is less than said first plurality.

13. The dispensing system of claim 9 wherein said housing comprises a cap member, and further comprising a base member coupled to said cap member.

14. The dispensing system of claim 13 wherein said base member is moveable along said longitudinal axis relative to said cap member, and wherein said base member comprises said actuator.

15. The dispensing system of claim 13 wherein said cap member is coupled to said base member with a snap fit.

16. The dispensing system of claim 9 wherein said end of said container comprises a first end, and further comprising a second end of said container opposite said first end, wherein said valve stem extends from said second end of said container.

17. The dispensing system of claim 9 wherein one of said housing and said single indicator member comprises a plurality of indexing receptacles and the other of said housing and said single indicator member comprises an indexing member selectively engaged with one of said indexing receptacles.

18. The dispensing system of claim 9 wherein said container is filled with a medicament.

19. An indicating device for indicating the number of dosages of medicament dispensed from a container, the indicating device comprising:
