Abstract

Methods and systems directed to a call-termination triggered social interface that leverages information associated with an incoming phone number for display to a user of a mobile device post-call and permits the user to conveniently issue commands to the mobile device or social networking system to take specific actions for the number or entity associated with the number on the social network.

Claims (55)

1. A method comprising:

by one or more computing devices, receiving a query from a client associated with a user of a social network, wherein:

the user is associated with a first node in a social graph of the social network; and

the query comprises a source of an incoming communication to the client;

by one or more computing devices, determining whether the source is associated with any of a plurality of second nodes in the social graph; and

by one or more computing devices, in response to determining that the source is not associated with any of the second nodes:

sending to the client an object comprising one or more user-selectable elements, wherein at least one of the user-selectable elements comprises an input field for accepting a user input for attributing the source to an entity;

receiving the user input from the client; and

based at least in part on the user input, when the attribution of the source corresponds to one or more of the second nodes, associating in the social graph one or more of the second nodes with the source.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the input field comprises a search bar; and

the input for attributing the source to an entity comprises one or more search terms.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the input for attributing the source to an entity comprises an identification of the entity.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein, when the attribution of the source does not correspond to one or more of the second nodes:

one or more third nodes are created based at least in part on the user input; and

the source is associated with one or more of the third nodes.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein at least some of the user input is associated with one or more of the third nodes.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the entity is a business, person, or third-party software application.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the incoming communication to the client is a telephone call, e-mail, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call, Short Message Service (SMS) communication, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) communication, an instant message (IM) communication, or a video-chat communication.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the source is a telephone number, an e-mail address, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) account identifier or username, social-network account identifier or username, or Internet Protocol (IP) address.

9. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media comprising instructions operable, when executed by one or more computing devices, to:

receive a query from a client associated with a user of a social network, wherein:

the user is associated with a first node in a social graph of the social network; and

the query comprises a source of an incoming communication to the client;

determine whether the source is associated with any of a plurality of second nodes in the social graph; and

in response to determining that the source is not associated with any of the second nodes:

send to the client an object comprising one or more user-selectable elements, wherein at least one of the user-selectable elements comprises an input field for accepting a user input for attributing the source;

receive the user input from the client; and

based at least in part on the user input, when the attribution of the source corresponds to one or more of the second nodes, associate in the social graph one or more of the second nodes with the source.

10. The media of claim 9 wherein:

the input field comprises a search bar; and

the input for attributing the source comprises one or more search terms.

11. The media of claim 9 , wherein the input for attributing the source comprises an identification of the source.

12. The media of claim 9 , wherein, when the attribution of the source does not correspond to one or more of the second nodes:

one or more third nodes are created based at least in part on the user input; and

the source is associated with one or more of the third nodes.

13. The media of claim 12 wherein at least some of the user input is associated with one or more of the third nodes.

14. The media of claim 9 , wherein the entity is a business, person, or third-party software application.

15. The media of claim 9 , wherein the incoming communication to the client is a telephone call, e-mail, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call, Short Message Service (SMS) communication, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) communication, an instant message (IM) communication, or a video-chat communication.

16. The media of claim 9 , wherein the source is a telephone number, an e-mail address, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) account identifier or username, social-network account identifier or username, or Internet Protocol (IP) address.

17. An apparatus comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors being operable when executing the instructions to:

receive a query from a client associated with a user of a social network, wherein:

the user is associated with a first node in a social graph of the social network; and

the query comprises a source of an incoming communication to the client; determine whether the source is associated with any of a plurality of second nodes in the social graph; and

in response to determining that the source is not associated with any of the second nodes:

send to the client an object comprising one or more user-selectable elements, wherein at least one of the user-selectable elements comprises an input field for accepting a user input for attributing the source;

receive the user input from the client; and

based at least in part on the user input, when the attribution of the source corresponds to one or more of the second nodes, associate in the social graph one or more of the second nodes with the source.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein in response to determining that the source is associated with one or more of the second nodes, social-network information about the source is sent to the client.

19. The media of claim 9 , wherein in response to determining that the source is associated with one or more of the second nodes, social-network information about the source is sent to the client.

20. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein:

the input field comprises a search bar; and

the input for attributing the source comprises one or more search terms.
