Abstract

Methods for preventing, ameliorating, or reducing dermatological signs of aging are provided which employ active agents, other than a retinoid, that stimulate thymosin beta-4 expression in the skin. Also provided are methods for screening for substances which stimulate thymosin beta-4 expression levels and the methods of using active agents identified by the screening protocol in the treatment of skin.

Claims (1)

1. A method for improving the aesthetic appearance of human skin in need thereof comprising topically applying to an area of the human skin at least once daily for a period of at least four weeks an effective amount of an aqueous extract of the leaves of Berchemia lineata , that stimulates human thymosin beta-4 expression in said human, for a time sufficient to improve the aesthetic appearance of said human skin.
