Abstract

A method for operating an integrated transceiver, comprising coupling an operating transmitter and an operating receiver within the integrated wideband receiver, inputting a signal into the operating transmitter, performing a first conversion of the signal, wherein the signal is converted into a second signal, transmitting the second signal into the operating receiver, performing a second conversion of the signal, wherein the signal is converted into a third signal, transmitting the third signal into the operating transmitter, and adjusting the operating transmitter.

Claims (69)

1. A method of operating a base station, comprising:

operating a transmitter to transmit a forward link signal during a transmit time interval;

coupling a portion of the forward link signal to a receiver during the transmit time interval;

operating the receiver to generate a feedback signal from the coupled portion of the forward link signal during the transmit time interval;

coupling the feedback signal to the transmitter during the transmit time interval;

decoupling the receiver from the transmitter during a receive time interval; and

operating the receiver to receive a reverse link signal during the receive time interval,

wherein the feedback signal is a digital baseband signal and the forward link and reverse link signals are analog RF signals.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the forward link signal is in a different frequency band than the reverse link signal.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising controlling the transmitter responsive to the feedback signal to perform a control action selected from a group consisting of:

training operation of the transmitter;

adaptively training operation of the transmitter;

linearizing operation of the transmitter; and

adjusting predistortion of the transmitter.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the digital baseband feedback signal is a sampled signal.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter comprises a power amplifier and a baseband to RF up-converter feeding the power amplifier, comprising tapping the portions of the forward link signal from a location selected from a group consisting of:

the baseband to RF up-converter;

the power amplifier;

an output of the baseband to RF up-converter;

an input of the power amplifier; and

the output of the power amplifier.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises an RF to baseband down-converter and a low noise amplifier feeding the down-converter, comprising coupling the portion of the forward link signal to a location selected from a group consisting of:

an input of the low noise amplifier;

the low noise amplifier;

an output of the low noise amplifier;

an input of the down-converter; and

the down-converter.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiver comprises an RF to baseband down-converter and a low noise amplifier feeding the down-converter, comprising coupling the feedback signal from a location selected from a group consisting of:

the down-converter;

an output of the down-converter; and

a location downstream of the down-converter.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base station comprises plural transmitters, the method comprising:

operating each transmitter to transmit a forward link signal during a respective transmit time interval;

coupling a portion of the forward link signal to a respective receiver during each respective transmit time interval;

operating the receiver to generate a feedback signal from the coupled portion of the forward link signal during each respective transmit time interval;

coupling the feedback signal to the respective transmitter during each respective transmit time interval;

decoupling the receiver from the transmitters during a receive time interval; and

operating the receiver to receive a reverse link signal during the receive time interval.

9. A method of operating a wireless mobile device, comprising:

operating a transmitter to transmit a reverse link signal during a transmit time interval;

coupling a portion of the reverse link signal to a receiver during the transmit time interval;

operating the receiver to generate a feedback signal from the coupled portion of the reverse link signal during the transmit time interval;

coupling the feedback signal to the transmitter during the transmit time interval;

decoupling the receiver from the transmitter during a receive time interval; and

operating the receiver to receive a forward link signal during the receive time interval,

wherein the feedback signal is a digital baseband signal and the forward link and reverse link signals are analog RF signals.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the forward link signal is in a different frequency band than the reverse link signal.

11. The method of claim 9 , comprising controlling the transmitter responsive to the feedback signal to perform a control action selected from a group consisting of:

training operation of the transmitter;

adaptively training operation of the transmitter;

linearizing operation of the transmitter; and

adjusting predistortion of the transmitter.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the digital baseband feedback signal is a sampled signal.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the transmitter comprises a power amplifier and a baseband to RF up-converter feeding the power amplifier, comprising tapping the portions of the forward link signal from a location selected from a group consisting of:

the baseband to RF up-converter;

the power amplifier;

an output of the baseband to RF up-converter;

an input of the power amplifier; and

the output of the power amplifier.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the receiver comprises an RF to baseband down-converter and a low noise amplifier feeding the down-converter, comprising coupling the portion of the forward link signal to a location selected from a group consisting of:

an input of the low noise amplifier;

the low noise amplifier;

an output of the low noise amplifier;

an input of the down-converter; and
